Plot twist, unexpected trucks might hold up better against the top dogs than you think. Sure, Ford sells the most trucks, and Chevrolet has a reputation for durability. But that doesn’t mean their trucks are the most reliable. The truck brand with the most reliable trucks is actually Toyota.

Toyota is the most reliable truck brand

Surprisingly, Toyota is the most reliable truck brand. Since Toyota launched new generations of the Toyota Tundra and Tacoma, it has experienced a few problems as reliability ratings dropped, but things are getting back on track.

While the Ford F-150 is the most popular truck, it’s had more than its fair share of problems, bringing its reliability score down. The Ford Ranger was a solid option for years, though.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 has been making massive improvements during the past few years to improve its reliability rankings.

Even though, the Chevy Colorado is remembered for being discontinued due to low sales and its problems. But now it’s back and better than ever.

Anyways, the best brand is based on the latest J.D.Power Vehicle Dependability Study. It’s based on the complaints of actual vehicle owners.

Surveys are sent out to thousands of owners, allowing them to report any problems they may have faced from the paint to the engine, transmission, electronics, and more.

Each vehicle brand is given a score based on the number of problems reported per 100 vehicles, so a lower score is better.

Toyota is in second place with a score of 147. Lexus is the most dependable brand overall with 135 points, but come on. It’s basically fancy Toyota.

Also, Chevrolet landed in fourth place with a score of 174. Ram is in 17th with a 201 and Ford is down in 23rd place with a score of 239. The average amount of problems per 100 vehicles is 190.

But the tides could change. Toyota has been changing its formula by updating old reliable trucks and SUVs. The new Tundra launched with trim and engine problems, the new Tacoma has transmission problems, and now the new Land Cruiser and 4Runner are hitting the streets.

Meanwhile, Ford has been holding its trucks longer for better quality checks to catch problems before vehicles are delivered. Toyota could be caught soon.
