The most reliable used truck isn’t the Toyota Tundra
Surprise, the Toyota Tundra might not be the reliability king that it used to be. A rival is actually the most reliable used truck that you can find. However, it was recently discontinued, so if 2024 models are sold out, only used options are available.
What is the most reliable used truck?
Drum roll, please, The most reliable used truck is the 2019 Nissan Titan. According to U.S.News, J.D.Power gave this model a reliability rating of 89 out of 100.
This is an extremely high score and one of the highest that I’ve seen from J.D.Power. Scores between 70 and 80 are average and anything between 81 and 90 is above-average. Scores between 91 and 100 are best, but I’ve never seen a truck score that high.
Most drivers probably think that the most reliable pickup truck is the Toyota Tundra. It does have a reputation for long-lasting durability. However, the 2020 Tundra just missed the mark with a score of 88.
The reliability scores are based on feedback from actual owners. Surveys are sent out to thousands of drivers allowing them to report on any problems they faced after three years of ownership.
Everything is included in the survey from paint issues, electronic problems, transmission failure, engine problems, trim failure, and more.
Also, the Tundra and Titan both have a secret to success. For years, both of these trucks stuck with a large V8 engine. The Tundra discontinued its reliable V8 powerhouse in 2022.
The 2019 Nissan Titan has a 5.6-liter V8 engine with 390 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque. With the 2020 Tundra, you get a 5.7-liter V8 engine with 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. While these engines are long-lasting, they aren’t very fuel-efficient.
Don’t be surprised if the Titan doesn’t feel as modern as its rivals. It was last fully redesigned in 2017 and had minor tech upgrades in 2020. But at least it’s the most reliable used truck.
