It may not be a household name yet, but the 2023 Genesis GV60 is preparing to take its place among the most successful EV SUVs on the market. J.D. Power’s APEAL study on the most satisfying small luxury SUVs

It’s called the J.D. Power APEAL Study, and it’s a great resource for car-buying consumers who want to see what others really think about a particular vehicle’s ability to “satisfy” in every major category. Every year, the consumer watchdog group’s Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) study highlights where the latest vehicles fail and excel. In this summer’s latest edition, J.D. Power shares consumer sentiments about the newest vehicles, and both design and performance in this new class are “unimpressive.”

Based on its survey findings, there continues to be a year-over-year decline in ownership satisfaction. Overall satisfaction ratings only hit a score of 845 on a 1,000-point system. That’s already two points down from last year and three points down from 2021. It indicates that design and performance improvements aren’t winning over consumers quite like they used to in years past. 

But this latest APEAL Study isn’t all doom and gloom. There’s another story to tell with its findings. And it suggests that the most satisfying small luxury SUV available today isn’t necessarily a household name yet. If sales figures are any indication, though, the Genesis GV60 is preparing to dominate in a big way.

Sales figures don’t suggest full take-off yet

GoodCarBadCar released the major automakers’ public sales figures, outlining top-selling models and quarterly totals. The 2023 Genesis GV60 may have only sold 379 units for the month, but that’s a 90% increase in units sold from the monthly sales last year. In 2023, a total of 2,218 GV60 models were sold, which already surpassed the YTD totals for 2022. So, while the 2023 Genesis GV60 isn’t dominating the market yet, the figures suggest there’s some serious momentum among luxury SUV buyers to make Genesis a household name soon. 

Why the Genesis GV60 is proving to be a great EV buy

It might just be the best EV buy consumers don’t know about yet. The 2023 Genesis GV60 is a futuristic and stylish luxury SUV that Edmunds says is “brimming with tech, power, and comfort.” And Genesis says the GV60 is setting a “new standard for luxury electric vehicles.” If the likes of Tesla aren’t on notice yet, they should be.

The 2023 Genesis GV60 comes in two available trims, the Advanced and the Performance. Both have an electric motor at each axle for all-wheel drive capabilities. And they’re powered by a 77.4 kWh battery pack. The entry-level is anything but “entry,” with 314 hp and an estimated range of 248 miles. The Performance trim brings 429 hp and a range of 235 miles. 

Expect all the style and luxury touch points, too, including a hands-free liftgate, power-folding heated mirrors, 20-inch wheels, fingerprint and facial recognition, head-up display, navigation, and a 12.3-inch center stack touchscreen. Go all in with the Performance trim if you want a massaging driver’s seat, heated rear seats, and premium leather upholstery. It just doesn’t get any more upscale.
