Mouse in the House: Disney-Themed Hyundai Ioniq 5 Concept Debuts at New York Auto Show
If you’ve ever wished upon a star that your EV could have some movie magic, then Hyundai may be your fairy godmother. The Korean automaker just rolled out a Disney-themed Ioniq 5 EV concept at the auto show. Apparently Hyundai intends to make it into a real production model.
What is the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Disney100 Platinum Edition?
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 Disney100 Platinum Edition is a collaboration project between Disney and Hyundai to celebrate the movie empire’s 100th anniversary. According to MotorTrend, it is Disney’s first contribution to a real car that will actually reach production. Hyundai unveiled its new Disney collab this week at the New York Auto show after hinting at it in previous ads.
“For 100 years, Disney has inspired audiences with timeless storytelling and the most innovative experiences,” said Rita Ferro, president, Advertising Sales, Disney in a statement. “The creation of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 Disney100 Platinum Concept is the next milestone in a longstanding creative collaboration with Hyundai inclusive of various teams across Disney including our Imagineers, entertainment brand solutions and marketing teams.”

Mouse ears and other easter eggs
The Disney-fied Ioniq 5 is full of nods to the animation giant, both subtle and not-so-subtle. It goes much further than just slapping a Disney logo on the EV crossover and calling it a day.
The version displayed at the New York Auto Show is fully loaded, as shown by MotorTrend. A unique LED light bar plays Disney motifs across the front of the vehicle while interior lighting is designed to create a light show. Disney logos are embossed and stitched into leather throughout the cabin. Even the wheels have circles that look like mouse ears.
MotorTrend does point out that not all the features are guaranteed to make it to production models. The Ioniq 5 Disney100 Platinum Edition seen at the New York Auto Show is simply a pre-production concept, after all.
This isn’t Hyundai’s first rodeo with Disney
Although this is the first time that Hyundai and Disney have produced a real car together, it isn’t their first partnership. According to Hyundai, the two collaborated extensively on an advertisement campaign in 2021. The “Question Everything” campaign centered Hyundai vehicles across Disney-owned brands like ESPN and ABC.
When can you get the Disney Hyundai Ioniq 5?
Hyundai has not yet announced when the Ioniq 5 Disney100 Platinum Edition will be available to order. When production models do arrive, they may have a pretty different collection of features from the NY Auto Show concept.
