Movie Cars Are Being Auctioned Off By US Marshalls

Every once in a while, there is a movie that makes it huge on the big screen that has a pretty cool supporting character, a soo-weet car. Those movie cars go on to inspire throngs of people for many years. On a rare occasion, a person may even see movie cars at a local car show. Now, however, there is an opportunity to buy three movie cars.

The truth is, only a few actual movie cars exist for any given movie. Sometimes, just one. The rest are likely replicas that are created for appearances or for a show circuit, such as one of the many Comicons.

On August 1st, three replicas are going to auction. The three are based on pretty famous movies. US Marshalls have seized the vehicles as part of a judgment against an individual that will be in prison for the next eight years.

The Ecto-1 movie car

The first of the movie cars is the Ecto1 from the movie Ghostbusters. It is based on a 1959 Cadillac. The white wagon has gear mounted to the roof to make it look like a legitimate movie prop, as well as a ghostbusting decal on the front doors. Interestingly enough, this movie car has a Barris Customs badge on it. That is extremely rare and makes people wonder if this is the actual unit used in the movie. Sadly, there is not enough information provided by the auction to determine that. So, although it is likely that this is a replica, there is no certainty.

Doc Brown would be proud of this car. It has his invention, the all-important, flux capacitor. This four-wheeled actor is built upon a 1981 Delorean DMC 12. Christopher Lloyd, the actor who played Doc Brown, has his signature on the car. Also, on one of the Delorean’s windows, there is a decal for the Las Vegas Car Stars convention, presumably indicating that this car was involved in that annual charity event. But, that can not be verified.

The Batmobile movie car

Okay, there have been many Batmobiles. The one at the auction is based on the Tim Burton Batman movie. This car is built upon a 1995 Chevrolet Caprice Classic. It comes complete with Batman floor mats and Batman steering wheel horn cover.

The Auction

The auction is being held in Ohio at Skipco Auto Auction on August 1st. There is a condition report available for each of the vehicles. Sadly, all three are listed as “Not Specified” when asked if they are driveable. They each also say, “Title Pending,” although that may have to do with the US Marshall transaction. But, buyer beware. If you are thinking about getting involved in the auction, do the due diligence necessary so that you are not surprised by anything.

Or, if you have always dreamed of going 88 miles per hour in a Delorean, or blasting some ghosts while riding Ecto-1, this is your chance. On the flip side, if you have dreamed of starting a movie car business, this might be the open door you have been waiting for.
