‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ Battle Italian Streets in a Maserati Grecale
“Mr. & Mrs. Smith” follows the contentious relationship of a couple who leave their prior lives behind to uphold a married cover. Well, that, and the so-called Mr. and Mrs. Smith characters must carry out missions, kill people, and not perish in the process. As such, you might expect stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine to hit the road in a spectacular fashion. You wouldn’t be wrong; in episode five of the first season, the couple evades baddies in a 2023 Maserati Grecale GT around Lake Como’s roads.
Donald Glover and Maya Erskine use a Maserati Grecale to evade hostile parties in ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’
The Mr. and Mrs. Smith dynamic brings Donald Glover and Maya Erskine to exotic locales and upscale accommodations. No surprise there. Within hours of completing their “onboarding,” the couple met in a modern New York City home, complete with a Range Rover in the garage. Oh, and a garage. Not cheap in NYC.
However, the couple’s adventures take them beyond the confines of the Big Apple. They jet-set to Italy. In episode five of the show’s only current season, Mr. and Mrs. Smith visit Veneto and Lake Como to rendezvous with “Hellboy” star Ron Perlman on a mission. During the ensuing action, the couple drove a 2023 Maserati Grecale around the twisties surrounding Lake Como.
Of course, in a dark action-comedy like “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” no one expects a straightforward experience. Instead, the couple, who signed on for “high-risk” work from their handler, “hihi,” put the Grigio Lava Metallic Maserati Grecale GT luxury SUV through its paces attempting to give some baddies in a Range Rover Sport the slip.
While the chase takes the protagonists around corners and an Alfa Romeo or two, the Range Rover Sport and Maserati Grecale GT make for less of an exciting chase than, say, James Bond’s Aston Martin v. Jaguar affair in “Spectre.” However, the Grecale, especially the Trofeo trim is far from anemic.
Still, some shots, with clear closeups of the Grecale’s Grigio Lava Metallic paintwork catching sunlight, seem almost promotional. Either way, the Grecale certainly blends in with the lakeside Italian landscape. Frankly, the show is packed with muscle-bound, high-dollar SUVs, from the couple’s Range Rover to a Russian mafioso-esque Mercedes-AMG G 63.
