For the past 10 years, these models have given owners the most problems and had the highest cost to repair.

In the video below, you’ll see 15 car and SUV models. They make up the least reliable vehicles for the past 10 years. So we’ve taken all of the cars of that list to give you this condensed list. These are the most unreliable cars of the last decade, ‘named and shamed.’

Collecting the data

In order to get this data on the most unreliable cars of the last decade, Car Wow got in tough with Warrant Wise. They took the probability of something going wrong with a particular model and multiplied it by the average cost per claim to come up with this list of cars to avoid. In addition, the highest claim filed within the last 10 years also adds to the data that gives a car a spot on this dreaded ‘named and shamed’ list. Each cost is listed in pounds due to the fact that Car Wow is British. So each of these prices is even higher if they’re projected in U.S. dollar amounts.

Cars to avoid

Of all the cars out there, it’s wise to choose one that doesn’t make it onto a list like this. While there are some compelling models here, the reliability factor will take them down several notches. Without further ado, let’s run through the list.

First up in the 15th slot is the Tesla Model S. This car to avoid has issues with its electrical system. Due to its being an electric vehicle, this isn’t exactly surprising. The average cost of repair is 1,322 British Pounds. The most expensive repair reported cost £4,402 for air suspension problems. Next on the list is the BMW M4. This model has brake issues with an average cost of £1,668. The most costly repair dealt with the infotainment system and cost £3,995.

More cars with a lot of problems

Next on our list of cars to avoid is the Jaguar XJ. This car has fueling system issues that cost an average of £1,179. Engine faults, however, caused the most expensive repair that cost an owner £9,616.

The next car on the list of most unreliable cars from the last decade is the Audi A7. This German luxury car has gearbox issues. Its average cost to repair in British Pounds is £2,199. However, gearbox issues can cost up to £11,222 to make right.

Last on the list and coming in at the top spot for the most unreliable car is the Bentley Continental GT. This car has electrical system problems, too, which cost an average of £2,299 to repair. But if you have engine problems with the Bentley Continental GT it can cost up to £9,616. Of course, if you can afford a Bentley, you probably aren’t super concerned with the cost of your repair bill. Still, it’s on the list as the most unreliable car of the past 10 years.
