NBA Star Austin Rivers Has an Insane Car Collection
Austin Rivers, Houston Rockets player, and son of beloved Doc Rivers – the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers – is known for his prowess on the court. Now that he seems to have found his rhythm this season, fans are expecting great things from this talented young player who is passionate about basketball.
Many don’t know that he’s also quite passionate about cars. Rivers has a collection that would make even the most hardcore car enthusiast green with envy.
What’s in Rivers’ collection?
Austin Rivers loves his cars
With a father who is a former NBA basketball player and now the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, basketball has always been part of Austin Rivers’ life. His love of the game makes him entertaining to watch on the court and a dynamic player for the Rockets. Just as great as his love of basketball is his love of cars.
In his spare time, Rivers’ collects fast cars. There are Ferraris. There’s a black Porsche GT2RS with a turbocharged engine that puts out 700 hp that he bought in 2018 for the hefty price of $293,000. The fact that he already possesses a stable of impressive, high-performance cars doesn’t keep him from wanting the latest fast cars on the market.
Rivers even began a second Instagram page called @riversofcars that he maintains that’s dedicated to his collection. He’s admitted to late nights watching YouTube reviews and tutorials on cars that catch his eye.
The Austin Rivers car collection
The beautiful Ferrari SF90 wears red as Rivers does on the court. The SF90 handles superbly and is one of the fastest cars on the market. It doesn’t hurt that its exterior design is stunning.
Rivers also has a Ferrari 488 Pista, which starts around $350,000. Pista means “track” in Italian. This is the fourth vehicle in a line of track-focused, limited-edition Ferrari mid-engine V8 two-seaters.
The black Porsche GT2RS was Rivers’ first Porsche. The car was featured on “Vehicle Virgins,” a YouTube channel hosted by car fan Parker Nirenstein who got to drive the spectacular luxury vehicle.
Rivers also has a 2006 Hummer called the “Alpha H1.” Rivers quipped that if there ever were a World War 3, he’d be ready just in case.
Not a new concept
Star athletes investing in luxury automobiles isn’t a new concept. The NBA has had many millionaire players who, like Rivers, invest in many luxuries including exotic cars.
Fan-favorite LeBron James has driven around in a Maybach S650 that put him back $171,745. With a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine that puts out 621 hp, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is a luxury vehicle among luxury vehicles.
San Antonio Spurs guard DeMar DeRozan is living his best life with a G Wagon. When the money started rolling in, he got a Mercedes Benz G63 and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Money from endorsements helps too. DeRozan appeared in a commercial for Ford, receiving a Ford F-150 Raptor as a tribute to the Toronto Raptors who he played for at the time.
Stephen Curry’s lucrative contract and many endorsement deals helped him gather a list of exotic cars for his garage. Curry’s collection features a Mercedes G55, a Porsche GT3 RS, and the Porsche Panamera. As Curry’s successful career continues to grow, we imagine his car collection will grow as well.
Dwyane Wade has a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Russell Westbrook has a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster. The Los Angeles Lakers’ Dwight Howard? Count him in too. He has an armored Knight XV.
Chris Paul is still one of the best point guards in the NBA. Paul has a collection of his own that includes a Range Rover and the Jeep JKU Wrangler Unlimited. He also has a classic 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo making him a man of wealth and taste.
