Nearly 200,000 Porsche Models Recalled for Headlight Problems
Porsche is recalling nearly 200,000 models due to headlight issues. The cars, made between 2003 and 2020, may be missing the adjustment screw caps from their headlight assemblies. If missing the screw caps, the headlights could fall out of spec, reducing nighttime visibility or causing excessive glare for oncoming motorists.
Porsche discovered the issue when the company realized the adjustment screw caps were not installed at the factory. It’s a minor issue and unlikely to cause a problem unless owners attempt to adjust their own headlights. Under the recall, dealers will inspect the headlight units and install the screw caps when needed.
Which vehicles are being recalled by Porsche?
According to Kelly Blue Book, the recall affects Porsche cars and SUVs made between 2003 to 2020 and includes the following models:
- 2003 to 2006 and 2008 to 2017 Porsche Cayenne
- 2014 Porsche Cayman
- 2015, 2018, and 2020 Porsche Macan
- 2010-2016 Porsche Panamera
Why is Porsche recalling these vehicles?
According to Autoblog, Porsche filed documents with federal safety regulators stating that “the caps that cover the low-beam headlight horizontal adjustment screws are missing.” As a result, this issue “can allow the headlights to be improperly adjusted.”
In the defect report, Porsche stated it “does not expect the horizontal adjustment will be misused by the customers. However, it is possible that someone could inadvertently adjust the lower beam horizontal adjustment mechanism to an improper setting.” Porsche further indicated that “improper horizontal aim can create glare to other motorists or reduce operator’s visibility. This could increase the risk of a crash.”
