Never Buy the Mitsubishi Outlander Instead of the Kia Sorento
You want a family SUV with three rows of seats, but you also want to save some money. That’s why the Mitsubishi Outlander and Kia Sorento make two great options to consider. However, is the Kia Sorento or Mitsubishi Outlander better? Let’s dive in and compare these two options to make sure you pick the best one.
The Kia Sorento VS Mitsubishi Outlander
The Kia Sorento comes in with its 3 rows of seats and starting prices around $26k, making it slightly more expensive than the Mitsubishi Outlander. The Outlander has a starting price around $24k, so is the Kia Sorento worth paying an extra $2k for?
To our surprise, the Mitsubishi Outlander has a better fuel economy. It gets up to 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The Kia Sorento only gets 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. So, while the Outlander has a lower starting price, it might help you save on fuel.
Kia Sorento VS Mitsubishi Outlander Performance
The Mitsubishi Outlander comes with two engine options. The 2.4-liter 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. This isn’t terrible, but it seems weak. You can also upgrade to the 3.0-liter V6 engine for 224 horsepower and 215 lb-ft of torque. Depending on the build you choose, the Mitsubishi Outlander can tow between 1,500 to 3,500 lb. It can also accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds, which is pretty good.
The Kia Sorento also has two engine options. The base model comes with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that pumps out 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. If you upgrade to the 3.3-liter V6 engine, you’ll get 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque. So the Kia Sorento has a lower fuel economy because it has more power and can tow between 2,000 to 5,000 lb. It can also accelerate from 0 to 60 in 7.6 seconds.

Both of these SUVs promote their comfortable interior. The Mitsubishi Outlander has seats with lumbar support, while the Kia Sorento has seats with memory foam. However, the Outlander has manual seats while the Sorento has a power touch second row to make accessing the 3rd row easier.
Also, both the Sorento and Outlander can connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. But the Sorento can also connect to your smartphone for remote start and climate control.
In terms of safety, the Kia Sorento offers more features such as distracted driver warning, rear cross-traffic avoidance, and more. The Kia Sorrento seems to be smarter, more powerful, and bigger. We see no reason to go with the Mitsubishi Outlander unless you want a slightly better fuel economy.
