Movies and TV shows do more than entertain; they advertise through product placement. A prime example is the new animated superhero film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, featuring a futuristic Hyundai car. However, audiences won’t get to drive this electric vehicle. But the automaker hopes the fictional ride will whet consumers’ appetite for other Hyundai EVs.

What fictional Hyundai car appears in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?’

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the latest installment in the ongoing adventures of Miles Morales/Spider-Man and the sequel to the popular animated classic Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Producers have been rolling out the red carpet for the film, working with other brands and companies to promote the film.

In advance of the movie’s June 2 release, Hyundai teamed up with Sony to include a special car in the film to promote the automaker’s latest EVs: the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.

The animated movie features a flying version of the company’s Prophecy concept car, a predecessor of the all-electric Ioniq 6. The fictional vehicle is called the “Flying Prophecy.”

In addition to that prototype, several other Hyundai concepts will appear in the film. They include purpose-built vehicles (PBVs), an eco-friendly urban mobility device to accommodate various lifestyles, and a self-driving robotaxi based on the Hyundai Pony.

Hyundai cars have appeared in other Sony films

This isn’t the first time Hyundai cars have appeared in Spider-Man movies. In 2020, the company signed a deal with Sony Pictures to include Hyundai vehicles in upcoming productions. The 2021 live-action movie Spider-Man: No Way Home featured the Ioniq 5 EV and Tucson SUV, while the 2022 movie Uncharted, a film based on a popular video game, included the Tucson Beast concept SUV. 

Hyundai says it’s collaborating with Sony Pictures on a sweeping advertising campaign to promote Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The project features the web-slinging character, the Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 5 EVs, new music, and creative social media content. 

What new Hyundai models can Spider-Man fans buy?

Unfortunately, fans can’t drive the Flying Prophecy because it’s a fictional concept car. But, of course, audiences can purchase other futuristic Hyundai models. The Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 EVs are available for purchase.

Boasting 320 hp and an EPA-estimated 303-mile range, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover SUV is a World Car of the Year Award winner. Available in four trims, the 2023 Ioniq 5 starts at $41,450.

The Ioniq 6 is another World Car Award winner. This 320-hp four-door sedan comes in six trims, with the base model starting at $41,600 and getting 361 miles of range⁠. It also features Bluelink+, a premium connected car service allowing drivers to schedule or stop charging remotely from their smartphone.
