WWE star John Cena is known for his high-flying wrestling moves and acting chops, but now, everyone will know him for the car he drives daily. By the looks of him, you might think that Cena drives something hefty like a Hummer H2 or perhaps something luxurious like a Cadillac Escalade. But you would be wrong on both accounts. In fact, you’ll probably never guess what he drives every day.

In a recent interview on the Andrew Santino podcast, “Whiskey Ginger,” John Cena revealed that he drives a 2020 Honda Civic Type R daily. Are you surprised? So were we, and evidently, so was the podcast host.

“My daily driver is a Civic Type R,” Cena said on the show.
“Shut up,” replied Santino.
“It’s got tech, it’s manual, it’s reliable,” Cena explained. “It’s a 2020, and it’s got a third pedal. At 145 [mph], it’s stable. It’s got seats in the back. I can actually pick people up.”

While we don’t condone driving a Civic at 145 mph on public roads, it’s nice to know that Cena has tested the limit for his fans. It’s also great that he picked the hot hatchback Civic for its practicality. After all, that’s why hot hatchbacks like the Civic Type R and Volkswagen GTI are so popular; they’re fast and passenger-friendly.

“If you have a purse in a Countach, you’re screwed,” Cena added. “They’re a little rough around the edges. The clutch is a dogfight, and it’s really tough to get those things running right. So if I need to drive more than 10 miles, it’s the Civic.”

Some of the other cars in Cena’s collection include a 1966 Dodge Hemi Charger 426, a 1970 Buick GSX, and a 1970 Plymouth Superbird. As we can see, the 2020 Honda Civic Type R is practically a black sheep among those cars, but it’s a sensible choice.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic Type R a good buy in 2023?

Cena’s endorsement for the 2020 Honda Civic Type R may have some fans and car enthusiasts wondering if it’s worth buying one now. A nationwide search on CarGurus shows plenty of 2020 models posted for anywhere between $40,000 to $43,000.

Although that price range is still much higher than the car’s original MSRP of $36,995, it’s on par with the market. Dealerships are currently marking up 2023 models to the $60,000 range, so spending $40,000 on a slightly used model with similar performance isn’t a bad idea. Also, the Civic Type R’s collectability and rarity are driving up prices, so good luck finding a used one for under $40,000 in good shape.

What’s so great about the 2020 Honda Civic Type R?

The Honda Civic Type R made its initial appearance on U.S. shores in 2017, but the Japanese automaker updated it for 2020. Some of the changes included a wider front grille for better cooling efficiency, an updated Active Damper System, a revised suspension, and better front brakes.

Otherwise, the 2020 Civic Type R is powered by the same turbocharged 2.0-liter found in the previous years, which pumps out 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. That may not be as much as the new model — or a Lamborghini Countach — but if it’s good enough for John Cena, it’s good enough for the rest of us.
