The new 2023 Toyota RAV4 can be ordered in 13 trim levels, and now Toyota is adding a 14th. RAV4 owners want to go off-roading, too. The Woodland Edition is the first off-road hybrid special edition SUV from Toyota. That’s a lot of descriptors, for sure. It’s about time. Toyota has made TRD versions of its Tacoma trucks, Tundra trucks, the Sequoia SUV, and even the Camry. Why not pump up the RAV4 Hybrid, one of Toyota’s hottest vehicles, with some TRD goodness and extra trim?

What makes a RAV4 Hybrid into the Woodland Edition?

The new-for 2023 Toyota RAV4 Woodland Edition is a special TRD Off-Road version of the RAV4.

Toyota’s TRD division has a proven formula for making a “regular” truck (or Corolla) into a performance machine: tweak the suspension. In the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition, TRD tuned the suspension to enhance body control and small-bump isolation to smooth out the trails. In the 2023 Toyota RAV4 Woodland Edition, the coils and shocks are tuned for off-road and the bump stops are tweaked. This video explains the TRD formula and the sub-brand’s back story. The 2022 TRD Off-Road edition starts at $36,915 and gets Toyota’s unique Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-wheel Drive and TRD-tuned suspension.

The Woodland looks the business

The TRD RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition comes in only three colors: Midnight Black Metallic, Cavalry Blue and Ice Cap. Beyond the unique colors, you can spot a Woodland in the wild by its bronze-colored wheels, black badging, and dual black chrome-tipped exhaust. It also comes with LED projector-beam headlights. But, you don’ have to buy the top-of-the-line RAV4 to get a great SUV.

On the inside, the all 2023 RV4 models will see some upgrades. Look for a new infotainment screen and a new system that allows you to say “Hey, Toyota” to voice commands. The new system has an 8-inch screen on LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, Prime, and other trim levels. However, higher-level versions like the Limited can get Road Sign Assist. The function can recognize certain road signs with the front-facing camera and show the driver information you may have missed.

You can order the RAV4 as base LE or Hybrid LE, a slightly upgraded SLE and Hybrid XLE, the XLE Premium and Hybrid XLE Premium, Adventure and Hybrid SE, TRD off-Road, Hybrid XSE, Limited and Hybrid Limited, and Prime XSE. That’s a total of 12 trim levels, and now with the Woodland edition, an additional 2 (with the Adventure) special versions. However, the Prime is a plug-in hybrid version.

Each option has slightly different goodies, like a 120-volt power outlet, special suspension, some suspension tweaks or technology.
