New Affordable SUVs for Less Than $30,000
Those looking for “affordable” cars generally means they’re looking for used vehicles, but there are eight new SUVs right now or soon to debut between $15,000 and $30,000. Automakers have not abandoned the affordable vehicle. Sure, it can make more from large trucks, SUVs and luxury cars, but manufacturers will gladly try to fill the market for affordable new vehicles.
1. Buick Encore GX
The Encore GX is a midsize SUV slotted between the smaller Encore and larger Envision SUVs. Believe it or not, Buick sells more Encores than any other model in its lineup. Unfortunately, we are about one year from seeing the GX in Buick showrooms but when we do it is expected to list for between $28,000 and $32,000. On the heels of the GX expect a redesigned Encore in late 2021.
2. Chevy Trailblazer
The Trailblazer wedges its way into a crowded field of Chevy SUVs with the Trax just below it and Equinox above. According to Automotive News, you can expect that the Equinox will drop some lower-priced models and will lower the price of the Trax to better position the Trailblazer. Expect the Trax to probably fall below $20,000 making the starting list price for the Trailblazer to fall around $22,000. Trailblazer will probably be larger inside compared to its direct competition.
3. Ford Escape
Ford’s compact SUV the Escape is all-new for 2020. It will be available with both the 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engines, but also a hybrid version as well. Starting price for a 1.5-liter Escape is $24,885, and the hybrid comes in at $28,227. Expect the hybrid to be available sometime in 2020.
4. Ford Bronco
There is so much anticipation for the Bronco to debut that we expect it to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, and MotorBiscuit will be there. Ford has done a good job of keeping a lid on much about the Bronco. We know that it shares its platform with the midsize Ranger pickup. Bronco will challenge the Jeep Wrangler for off-road nirvana so expect a similar starting price of $28,000.
5. Honda HR-V
Honda’s sub-compact HR-V is one of the best selling in its class and one of the most affordable on this list. Currently, the base price for an HR-V is $20,620. We understand that the new HR-V will differ little from the current model’s engine options or interior. Whether the HR-v gets hybrid technology remains to be seen.
6. Hyundai Venue
Hyundai’s baby Palisade FWD sub-compact Venue SUV comes in at just under $20,000 making it one of the most affordable of our affordable eight. Standard features include a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, heated front seats, blind-spot alert, forward collision alert, and automatic braking. It also comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
7. Mazda CX-30
Slotted between Mazda’s CX-3 subcompact SUV and midsize CX-5 the CX-30 will probably be powered by the 2.0-liter four-cylinder as the standard engine and the 2.5-liter optional. Entry CX-5s will probably be dropped to better wedge the CX-30 so expect prices to start around $24,000.
8. Mitsubishi Outlander
The 2020 Outlander will be all-new, developed around the Renault Alliance platform. For that reason, expect it to be larger and include three-row seating. A regular hybrid should follow shortly after the gas Outlander debuts.
