The BMW M2 is a fairly universally loved car. It combines all of the powerful and fun aspects of the bigger M cars like the M3 and M4 into a tiny package. What’s not to love about that? Furthermore, its use of a traditional front-engine rear-wheel drive layout and the availability of a manual transmission has long kept BMW M cars a favorite of driving enthusiasts.

Now, BMW is releasing a new one. The new BMW M2 Teaser Video shows a lot of exciting things in the making but doesn’t reveal too much.

New BMW M2 Teaser shows just enough to get people excited

BMW recently put out a 35-second teaser video revealing that the newest iteration of the iconic M2 is incoming. However, the legendary German auto manufacturer did not give us much of a good look at the car. Obviously, this was no mistake, and the intention certainly worked out great! Now, BMW enthusiasts around the world are waiting on the edge of their seats.

The video very briefly shows a couple of outside clips of the new M2 sliding around. Additionally, there’s a brief look at the interior and the steering wheel, as well. However, throughout all of the dim lighting, shot changes, and effects, there’s not much to make out except for the daytime running lights. Of course, what we can gather from these clips, is that the M2 is likely keeping its rear-wheel drive layout.

Finally, the only sort of teaser text BMW offers is a brief message saying “It’s playtime” and a text slide at the end saying that the new BMW M2 is coming soon.

Now, all we can do is speculate and put our wishes for what powers the M2 out into the world and hope that those positive vibes somehow influence the car. Obviously, that doesn’t make any sense since the car already exists, but what’s a little wishful thinking going to hurt?

What engine does the new BMW M2 have?

Though BMW has yet to release any specs, there’s plenty of speculation as to what the new M2 may come with as a power plant. Plenty of wishful thinking in the Youtube comments are looking for the traditional inline-six with a manual transmission option. Likely, that’s exactly what it’ll wind up getting.

The last generation M2 shared the N55 3.0-liter inline-six engine with the M3 and M4. So, it only makes sense that the newest M2 will also share the powerplant of the current M3 and M4, the S58.

Car and Driver theorizes that it will indeed carry the S58 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged powerplant from the current lineup M3 and M4 models. Additionally, C&D estimates a total power output of 405 horsepower. To many car enthusiasts’ delight, C&D also suggests that it will come with the options of a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic. Of course, all of these specs are preliminary guesses from Car and Drive and not official figures from BMW.

Ultimately, all we know about the M2 currently is that it’s coming out soon. However, car enthusiasts can definitely count on it being an awesome performance sedan with plenty to offer in the driving experience department!
