The New Corvette E-Ray Is the Fastest ‘Vette Ever
The new 2024 Chevrolet Corvette might not have received the same public reveal treatment as the new S650 Ford Mustang, but it’s still something special. In addition to being the first hybrid and first all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle in the model’s history, the new E-Ray is quite simply the fastest accelerating production Corvette that Chevrolet has ever made. How fast does the E-Ray Corvette go?
The new 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray will top out around 180 mph. While that might not seem impressive compared to other supercars, the hybrid Corvette will hit 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. Moreover, the new E-Ray will finish a quarter-mile run in 10.5 seconds.
That’s blisteringly quick. In fact, the 2018 Dodge SRT Demon, widely recognized as one of the quickest muscle cars of all time, hits 60 in 2.3 seconds, just 0.2 seconds faster than the hybrid Corvette. Considering Chevrolet didn’t design the hybrid supercar for record-breaking quarter-mile times, the E-Ray’s straight-line speed is very impressive. Part of the reason that the E-Ray is so swift is its hybrid platform, which marries a 495-horsepower 6.2L LT2 V8 with a 160-horsepower front-mounted electric motor.
The result of the hybrid electric team-up is the first eAWD and grippiest Corvette ever. Still, the smart, space-saving eAWD system doesn’t just result in snappy launches; it proportions front-wheel traction during cornering and handles inclement weather better than more traditional rear-wheel drive (RWD) applications.
How fast are the E-Ray’s closest Corvette competitors?
When it comes to the E-Ray’s closest competition, the logical place to start is with the track-ready C8 Stingray Z51. In Car and Driver’s testing, the 2023 Corvette Stingray Z51 Convertible hit 60 mph in 3.0 seconds flat, and the removable hardtop coupe did it in 2.8 seconds. While that’s very impressive for a vehicle with a base price under $70,000, it’s not as fast as the new hybrid Corvette.
Moreover, the new, flat-plane crank V8-powered Z06 can’t keep up with the new AWD ‘Vette, either. In similar testing, the high-revving Z06 put down a 0-60 mph time of 2.6 seconds with a quarter mile done in about 10.5 seconds. That makes Z06 very nearly as quick as the E-Ray, but still 0.1 seconds slower to the 60 mph benchmark.
Is a Corvette E-Ray faster than a Ferrari?
The new Corvette E-Ray is faster-accelerating than most production Ferraris and hits 60 mph just behind the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, one of the fastest cars the marque has ever made. Specifically, the SF90 hits 60 mph in about 2.3 seconds.
Still, the Stradale starts at around $511,250, nearly five times starting cost of the entry-level E-Ray.
How much is the E-Ray?
The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray 1LZ starts at about $104,295 for the coupe with a removable hardtop. The higher-trim 2LZ will start at around $108,400, and the range-topping 3LZ’s starting price will be about $113,850. Moreover, all the trims offer a convertible for $7,000.
