Do you know what rental cars and brand-new cars have in common? People expect them to work. So a brand new rental car should provide an extra level of confidence. However, one driver only made it 10 miles before a new Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe suffered severe problems.

A brand new Jeep Cherokee 4xe only made it 10 miles before disaster struck

A man named Walt from New York rented a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe for his temporary driving needs before things quickly went south.

He made it a whole 10 miles down the road before the check engine light came on. But instead of ignoring the light like tons of drivers do, Walt pulled over.

Because he’s a mechanic he checked things out. He wanted to check the oil level. Once the hood was popped he could see that oil was splashed everywhere.

The dipstick was dry with no trace of oil, suggesting a significant leak. The oil was coming into contact with hot surfaces and things could have quickly gotten worse. Walt mentioned that the motor was dry and it sounded like it was going to explode.

But Walt still needed answers and researched the issue. It could be related to the PCV valve. Other drivers have been replacing the gasket in their Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models very early on.

People have noticed the leaking oil before accruing even 300 miles. But another source blames the leak on the rental car company. They may have neglected its maintenance. It only had 3,000 miles on the odometer, though.

Walt decided to drive home and consider his options. He could wait an hour or two and have his rental vehicle picked up and replaced or he could have 30 miles of free charging on the rental company.

Unfortunately, we don’t know what decision he made. We also don’t know what the actual cause of the leak from this particular model was.
