The New Jeep Renegade 4xe Has More Power Than Expected
The smallest Jeep model just got more efficient. The new Jeep Renegade 4xe will go further on electric power than before. Check out how the Jeep Renegade e-Hybrid is a step in the right direction for the Zero Emission Freedom goal.
The Jeep Renegade 4xe is efficient
First of all, it’s important to note that the Jeep Renegade 4xe isn’t a fully electric vehicle. It’s a plug-in hybrid model that still uses an internal combustion engine. However, it’s well equipped to provide an all-electric range to reduce fuel consumption.
The Jeep Compass 4xe also gained new e-Hybrid tech. But according to MoparInsiders, things are on track to reach 100 percent electrified freedom in the next couple of years. Rumors suggest that the first fully electric Jeep Grand Cherokee could arrive in 2023.
In 2021, one out of four Jeep models sold in Europe was a 4xe model. If the Renegade and Compass 4xe were offered in America, maybe those numbers would be matches. Also, as of 2022, the number has improved to one out of three.
What is the Renegade 4xe e-Hybrid?
The Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade 4xe 2×4 models are equipped with a new e-Hybrid propulsion system that provides a full-electric mode during parking and low-speed driving situations. Once you start the SUV, it silently fires up and begins in the full electric mode.
Energy Recovery activates itself to return lost energy while decelerating or braking. Also, the e-Coasting mode activates as soon as you take your foot off the gas, and e-Breaking helps recover even more energy.
The engine is turned off and disconnected from the transmission during these driving modes. You can see how much power is being supplied and the amount of energy recovered in the instrument panel, and the hybrid system’s energy flow is displayed on the infotianment system.
With e-Launch, the vehicle only turns on with its electric engine. But the combustion engine silent turns on as you push the accelerator, so you don’t miss out on a sporty performance. The e-Boosting function provides instant torque.
Plus, the e-Parking function switches back to the electric mode, so you can silently perform necessary movements, including reversing without using gas.
How much power does the Renegade 4xe have?
We’re waiting on official ratings for the new Jeep Renegade 4xe e-Hybrid models. The Jeep Compass 4xe and Renegade have about a 31-mile electric range, which is more than the average driver travels each day.
The earlier Renegade 4xe model provides up to 240 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. It’s unclear if the Compass and Renegade have been updated to provide more muscle. The SUVs use a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo with a 48-volt 15-kW electric motor.
For off-roading, two propulsion systems are activated to improve off-roading functions with the Select Terrain system. The Renegade is better equipped for off-roading than the gas-powered model and has more traction control at lower speeds.
We’re pretty jealous that Europe gets these Jeep 4xe models. Maybe the Compass and Renegade 4xe will be introduced in the United States by the end of 2023, which feels like an eternity from now. Until then, the Jeep Gladiator 4xe could be next.
