New Lawsuit Could Have Toyota in Hot Water in This Country
Toyota is a company well-known for producing capable gas-operated and hybrid cars. The superior construction and good performance ratings of its vehicles have attracted many loyal customers over the years. One of its newest models, the Toyota Supra, is already considered one of the most valuable and powerful sports cars on the market.
Toyota has enjoyed success in multiple countries, particularly Japan and Australia. However, this could change in the near future. Earlier this month, a lawsuit was filed against GM over a faulty diesel engine. Now Toyota is facing a similar problem.
A class-action lawsuit was filed against the company in Australia. The lawsuit claimed that the diesel filters in some of its best-selling models were defective.
Lawsuit details
The lawsuit will affect consumers who purchased Hilux, Fortuner, and Prado vehicles between October 1, 2015 and July 26, 2019. While no set amount has been determined, the lawsuit seeks to give Toyota’s customers compensation for all the time and money spent on servicing their vehicles.
Even the most reliable cars in the world will need repairs at some point. However, if a car needs the same type of repair often, it could be an issue with the manufacturer.
According to the lawsuit filed by Banister Law, the diesel particulate filter in the affected cars wasn’t functioning properly. The diesel filter is an important part of the diesel engine. If the filter becomes damaged, the fuel injectors will become clogged, which could lead to engine failure and other expensive repairs. Customers who purchased these vehicles reported that they had to replace the diesel filter entirely multiple times.
Toyota has yet to comment on the lawsuit, but this is not uncommon behavior for the company. Although it has agreed to pay fines for misleading customers about its vehicles’ defects in the past, the company has never admitted to being at fault for the issues experienced by its customers.
Toyota and Australia
Despite the lawsuit, Toyota has never had any problems selling cars in Australia. It’s the official sponsor of Rally Australia, an exciting motorsport event that features racers from all over the world.
Toyota has been supplying multiple vehicles to the event for three years. The company sold over 223,000 vehicles in the country over the course of last year, which resulted in a 50% increase in its profits after taxes.
Australia’s most popular car
One of the vehicles affected by the faulty diesel filter, the Hilux, is reported to be the best-selling car in Australia. It quickly gained notoriety for being featured in the BBC series Top Gear. It showed the vehicle to be able to take a lot of damage and still be repaired.
This pickup truck has a wide variety of body styles and engines to fit the needs of its drivers. For example, its most powerful engine is a V6 4.0-liter capable of 235 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.
The future of Toyota Australia
Whether or not this lawsuit will set back the company’s success in Australia remains to be seen. Toyota has issued several recalls for its vehicles in the past.
In 2012, the company had to recall over 7 million vehicles for faulty window power switches. Two years later, another recall had to be made because of multiple issues, including defective propellant devices that could not function properly in the event of a crash. This recall affected more than 7 million vehicles in the United States
Despite this, Toyota remains one of the most successful car companies in the world. If the company can continue to produce quality vehicles without major flaws or defects, it will have a bright future in every country.
