New Lucid Gravity SUV: 7 Seats, Super Aero, but Is It Also Super Fast?
We are truly living in a golden age if Lucid’s new promises for its first SUV come true. The EV maker’s first SUV, the Lucid Gravity, should represent the pinnacle of Lucid’s SUV development so far. Already, its Lucid Air sedan is setting speed records and impressing reviewers. Could the new Lucid Gravity do the same?
The new Lucid Gravity SUV is the most aerodynamic SUV ever?
Lucid says that the EV Gravity is “more aerodynamic than any SUV the world has ever seen.” While the company doesn’t offer any coefficient of drag numbers, it does look sleek, with a broad and smooth front end and a flat hood. The images from the top down show a long, broad, panoramic roof with a spoiler at the back end. Though there’s nothing that particularly says “aero,” on it, there’s nothing there that doesn’t need to be.
The Gravity SUV will come in two-row or three row versions with five, six, or seven seat combinations. In concept images, you can see the Gravity’s two captain’s seats in the middle. It’s easy to forget that this is an SUV. But, instead of a liftgate like a traditional SUV, it has a clamshell rear opening. It will likely take on the new Polestar and Cadillac EVs.
How powerful is the new Lucid Gravity SUV?
Lucid didn’t share many details in its first salvo of Gravity information. But, it does promise “Supercar levels of performance,” so we can expect it to be quick. The Lucid Gravity’s powertrain has not been disclosed. But, we can expect it to rival the Air, which has a monstrous 1,000 or 1,200 horsepower dual motor powertrain. Auto Week, however, speculates it could have a three-motor powertrain.
The Air has an available large battery pack, and we can expect the Gravity to come with one, too. The air also offers all-wheel drive, and we should expect the same from the Gravity.
The Air, for comparison, with 1,050 horsepower, has a range of 516 miles and a 0-60 mph time of about 3.0 seconds. Really.
When will the Lucid Gravity come out and how much will it cost?
The Gravity will be unveiled in 2023 and deliveries are expected in 2024. You can reserve one now. Prices have not yet been announced, however, the Air is not cheap. It starts at $87,400 and increases to $154,000. The Gravity will likely be more expensive, but Lucid is still finalizing the design in specs.
Lucid eservations will open in early 2023, but you’ll have to act quick, as we expect the Gravity’s allotment to go quickly.
