The Ford Mustang EcoBoost is the cheapest pony car in the Blue Oval’s lineup, galloping on into the upcoming seventh generation of the model. The new 2024 Ford Mustang EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium from the S650 generation gets a power bump but also demands a higher starting price. How much is the new entry-level Mustang, and is it worth it? 

How much is a 2024 Mustang EcoBoost?

The base-model 2024 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Fastback starts at $30,920. That marks a $3,150 increase over the previous model year. 

Moreover, the EcoBoost Premium drives the price up, adding about $5,525 to the base model. Of course, the 2024 model represents the start of a new platform: the S650. It’s understandable, then, that the price would shift. However, a bump of over $3,000 is no small amount, even between generations. 

There are exterior stylistic similarities between the S550 and S650, like the grand tourer design language from the outgoing S550. However, the S650, including the entry-level EcoBoost, gets a complete interior refresh. Gone are the classic toggles and double-bubble brow dash. In their place, Ford equipped the new EcoBoost with a 12.4-inch LCD digital display cluster and a much more modern aesthetic.  

What is the Mustang EcoBoost Premium package?

The $36,445 EcoBoost Premium Fastback adds luxury and technology to the base model EcoBoost. For instance, Ford says the new Premium trim will add wireless device charging and a framed glass curved display in lieu of the previous model’s smaller touchscreen. 

The new EcoBoost Premium interior’s technology and ergonomics are a vast departure from the previous generation, including a 13.2-inch center stack that blends into a 12.4-inch LCD cluster in front of the driver. The post-facelift S550 models had optional digital displays and touchscreen infotainment systems. However, the new pony car packs much more technology, including Ford’s SYNC 4 system, per TrueCar. 

How much HP will the 2024 Mustang EcoBoost have?

The entry-level 2024 Ford Mustang EcoBoost produces 315 horsepower. That makes the new model the most potent base EcoBoost since Ford introduced it in 2015. 

However, while the upcoming EcoBoost produces an extra five horsepower, it loses something special. Specifically, the new S650 EcoBoost ditches the six-speed manual transmission option. Instead, fans can only opt for the 10-speed automatic unit. Admittedly, it’s a faster-shifting unit, but it also goes without the old-school rock n’ roll sensation of rowing through the gears.  

Is it worth getting an EcoBoost Mustang?

The new EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium come with quite a price bump. However, they’re still top options for fans who want a powerful pony car without the inefficiency of the V8-powered GT. Still, with the price increase, the EcoBoost’s competitors, like the Toyota GR86, look that much more attractive. 

Moreover, the new EcoBoost Mustang wears its controversial exterior styling. So, for fans who prefer the looks of the post-facelift S550, a used EcoBoost might be the better option.
