New Shortages Stop 2023 Chevy Silverado Production
Oh no, the Chevrolet Silverado is facing problems again. New delays are striking Just as production was starting to increase and get back on track. The potential United Auto Workers strike could make things even worse for the 2023 Chevy Colorado.
2023 Chevy Silverado production is delayed again
Recently, things were looking up for the 2023 Chevy Silverado. Production for General Motors and Stellantis was finally increasing after struggling due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, global semiconductor chip shortage, and other supply chain disruptions.
Now, production has been halted due to new supply chain issues. But reports from Detroit tell us General Motors didn’t specify which parts it needs to build its most popular, light-duty pickup trucks. The similar GMC Sierra 1500 is also experiencing a production pause.
General Motors spokesman Kevin Kelly confirmed that all production during the week of August 28 will be canceled at the Fort Wayne, Indiana plant. This is where the Silverado and Sierra are built. But things should be back on track by September 5, 2023.
Plus, the GM Silao plant in Mexico has been down for two weeks, and the Owasha plant in Canada was down on Thursday due to parts shortages. Both plants build GM light-duty trucks.
The Wentzville assembly plant in Missouri is also impacted by shortages. It won’t have a third shift during the week of August 28. The third shift should resume by September 5. This is where the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are built.
GM and other automakers have been trying to increase inventory levels to prepare for the possible United Auto Workers strike. The UAW has been negotiating with GM, Ford, and Stellantis as its contract with them will expire on September 14.
How long is the wait for a 2023 Silverado?
When ordering a 2023 Chevy Silverado, it could take 10 to 12 weeks to complete the manufacturing process. But this is the best-case scenario as automakers continue facing production challenges.
Some people have been waiting for about four to six months. Other people have been waiting for over 10 months to receive their trucks. However, production of the 2023 Silverado model started in August 2022. Hopefully, that means more trucks have been available at dealership lots.
Production of the 2024 Silverado was expected to begin in July. It’s unclear if Chevrolet has completed all of its 2023 orders to make the switch.
The 2024 Silverado is available to order, though. Deliveries of the 2024 Silverado should begin in the fall unless more production issues strike.
2024 Silverado: What’s new?
The 2024 Chevy Silverado may face delays, but that’s not exactly new. This truck also doesn’t have many changes as it’s primarily a carryover model. It’s part of the fourth generation that was launched in 2019.
You can customize your Silverado with a new Blackout Appearance package, and the High Country trim gets a black Midnight Edition. Two new shades of paint include Lakeshore Blue and Slate Grey.
Trucks with the 6.2-liter V8 engine get an active exhaust for more aggressive sounds, and wireless Apple Carplay/Android Auto are standard across the entire lineup. Also, the ZR2 model is available with the turbo diesel engine.
