At $53,990, the New Tesla Model 3 Performance Is 1 of the Fastest Cars for Its Price
The first-generation Tesla Model 3 Performance offered snappy, thrust-happy launches without breaking the bank. Now, the new range-topping Model 3 seems to be following suit. In fact, the brand claims the Performance trim will hit 60 mph in under 3.0 seconds; that would make the new EV one of the fastest cars on the market at its price point.
Tesla claims the new $53,990 Model 3 Performance will sprint to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds
The new Tesla Model 3 Performance has some sizable shoes to fill. Elon Musk’s baby Tesla continues to serve as the electric vehicle marque’s most affordable model, barring the release of a sub-$30,000 entry-level model. Moreover, the Model 3 Performance managed to hit 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, a figure few cars could match at the price point.
Well, the brand claims the new 2024 model is even quicker. The California brand says the new Model 3 Performance will hit 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. Rarified air indeed. The extra speed is courtesy of a bump in power and the model’s dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) grip.
Trim | Starting price |
---|---|
Standard Range RWD | $38,990 |
Long Range | $47,740 |
Performance | $53,990 |
That would put the 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance ahead of the new, lightning-fast 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N and its 3.0-second sprint to 60 mph. Moreover, the 641-horsepower Hyundai EV starts at around $67,475, the better part of $13,500 north of the baby Tesla’s starting price point.
The trend continues with gas-powered performance rivals. For instance, the Z51-equipped Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will hit 60 mph in 2.8 seconds on its way to an 11.2-second quarter mile. However, the 6.2L V8-powered Corvette will demand over $70,000 from its buyers. And that’s before the inevitable dealer markups. Consequently, the new Model 3 range-topper will likely be one of the fastest-accelerating cars at its price point.
