With gas prices higher than ever, finding a fuel-efficient SUV or truck is a good idea. Edmunds has some fuel-efficient SUV options that offer plenty of miles between fill-ups and even some luxury SUV picks. Even some pickup trucks made it on the list.

Edmunds’ top-rated and fuel-efficient SUVs of 2022

Edmunds’ top-rated efficient SUVs of 2022 have options from the small, compact, and midsize SUV categories. The Honda CR-V is at the top of the list and gets between 29 and 30 mpg for the combined fuel economy.

The 2022 Kia Telluride also falls into the fuel-efficient SUV category. The Telluride gets around 21 to 23 mpg in combined fuel economy. Edmunds actually chose the Telluride SUV as the top-rated SUV across all SUV segments for this year. The 2022 Volkswagen Taos racked up anywhere from 28 to 31 mpg in combined driving.

The 2022 Genesis GV70 gets between 21 and 24 mpg in combined driving as fuel-efficient SUVs in the luxury category. The GV70 is the top-rated compact SUV overall, too. The Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 and GLE 450 SUVs came in at 22 mpg in combined fuel economy. Another fuel-efficient SUV option with at least 20 mpg is the Mercedes-Benz GLS 450.

Midsize and full-size fuel efficient SUV options from Edmunds

Sometimes you need a full-size fuel-efficient SUV with room for a ton of people and stuff. Life is funny that way. Edmunds has four suggestions that get the job done. First up is the 2022 Cadillac Escalade, which manages to get an astonishing 22 to 23 mpg in combined fuel economy.

The 2022 Chevy Suburban and Chevy Tahoe get a similar 22 to 24 mpg combined. Another full-size SUV option is the GMC Yukon with 22 to 23 mpg combined fuel numbers. If there is an engine option, the turbo-diesel might be the one to pick. It won’t be as loud and demanding as the V8, but it makes up for it in fuel numbers.

The Escalade has room for seven passengers, while the Yukon and Suburban have room for nine. The Tahoe has room for anywhere from seven to nine passengers, depending on the situation. But those fuel economy numbers are no joke, and these large SUVs deliver in both areas. Even if you have almost 10 people to move around, these fuel-efficient SUVs get the job done.

Don’t worry, Edmunds delivered on the pickup trucks too

The Ford Maverick starts off the fuel-efficient truck section with 37 mpg in combined driving. A midsize truck that gets good fuel economy is the Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel. Like the large SUVs before, the turbo-diesel engine option is surprisingly fuel-efficient. The Jeep Gladiator truck gets 24 mpg in combined driving.

The turbo-diesel engine in the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with two-wheel drive gets 27 mpg combined for full-size trucks. But if you want the top-rated truck from Edmunds, the Ford F-150 doesn’t get lousy fuel economy. Buying the F-150 hybrid delivers 25 mpg combined.

While there aren’t as many options overall, plenty of fuel-efficient SUVs and trucks also have high ratings in other categories. Reliability is a big selling point for people these days, and Edmunds gives many of these trucks and SUVs the stamp of approval.
