The New Toyota Tacoma Is Fixing Frustrating Issues
We have good news for Toyota Tacoma fans who have been waiting on crucial upgrades to drop. We’ve been asked why it’s still the same old truck, when it will get modern brakes and more. Thanks to the new 2024 Toyota Tacoma teasers, we finally have a few answers.
Updated on 06/28/23 for freshness.
2024 Toyota Tacoma: What’s new?
The new Toyota Tacoma is a bit bigger. It rides on the TNGA-F platform, like the larger Toyota Tundra. This should relieve complaints about the current model being too small. Drivers will appreciate extra headspace and legroom in the front.
Taller folks complain about the seats in the 2023 model for sitting too close to the floor, causing their knees to sit too high. Plus, the passenger seat has limited adjustment controls. This was slightly improved with more cabin space to work with.
The new Tacoma also features innovative storage solutions. the space under the rear seat is now three times bigger and easier to access. The glove box and center console might be bigger as well.
With the 2023 model, you could get a safe in the center console. Unfortunately, this feature didn’t get carried over. But without the safe, you can open the center console way fast.
What engines does the new Toyota Tacoma have?
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma has two new engines with different power outputs. The standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine cranks out 228 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque with the base SR model. With higher trim levels and the six-speed manual transmission, it provides 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
On higher trim levels with the eight-speed automatic transmission, this engine cranks out 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. Also, the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain pairs the turbocharged engine with an electric motor and a battery pack to generate 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.
Currently, the Tacoma gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway. Hybrid power might help the 2024 Tacoma save more fuel. But the official estimates haven’t been released.
We’re excited to see how the new eight-speed transmission feels. The outgoing model was a little slow and jerky. The new unit should eliminate power delays.
Does the 2024 Tacoma have a nice interior?
Yes, the new Toyota Tacoma has an upscale and modern interior that’s loaded with new tech. It stays true to its roots with a simple yet intuitive design so people can focus on driving. It has chunky physical controls instead of touchscreen options, and the TRD Pro model pops with red accent stitching.
Also, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro has new IsoDynamic seats that feature shock absorbers in the back to reduce violent force and shaking while off-roading. The verticle alignment works to stabilize body movement and align the spine.
An 8.0-inch screen comes standard, but you can upgrade to the 14.0-inch unit. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and the new wireless charging pad is much faster than before. Also, new features include a head-up display and ventilated seats.
The Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite is standard and comes with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, road sign recognition, lane departure warning, and lane-centering assistance.
