The New Toyota Tacoma Might Have a Front Axle Problem
There’s a second major problem looming around the new Toyota Tacoma. The 2024 model just launched, and typically new models have a few kinks to work out. But the issues for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma could be bigger than a causal kink due to front axle problems and transmission failure.
Does the 2024 Toyota Tacoma have front axle problems?
Maybe, a few causes of broken front axles with the 2024 Toyota Tacoma have emerged. It’s not a widespread concern and there are no investigations to see if the problem needs to lead to a recall, yet.
However, this could snowball into a massive recall or it could just be a problem that a few trucks faced. So, stay tuned for updates.
The team over at the Fast Lane Truck was using a 2024 Tacoma for some light off-roading in the snow on a rocky trail in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
They had the truck in low-range 4Lo with the Multi-Terrain Select Rock Crawl mode engaged and the rear differential was locked.
Then the rear tires had almost no traction and all of the power was sent forward. The driver’s side wheel also had very little traction, so all of the power went to the front passenger wheel.
The MTS system used the brake to clamp down on that wheel and this least to the shaft in the differential disconnect system to break.
Toyota claims that the force exceeded the hardware capability by 1.7%, but the team was doing routine off-roading. On a positive note, the truck was able to be driven home and then to a dealership.
The fix involved creating a software logic change to prevent this problem from happening again. It has been applied to all of the Tacoma Hybrid models that already left the production plant in Mexico.
So this problem may have been solved before other Toyota Tacoma deliveries were made, preventing the need for a recall later.
But what about the trucks that customers already received? Hopefully, the problem is covered under the warranty.
