The New Volkswagen Scout Will Be American Made
Welcome the Volkswagen Scout back to America. When the new Volkswagen Scout EV makes its debut, it will be American-made. Plus, the new VW Scout might only be available in the United States, so it should be filled with pride.
The Volkswagen Scout wants to be reborn in America
The Volkswagen Scout is resurrecting a classic ride as an electric SUV and truck to rival options like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T. As it brings electric, off-roading upgrades to the table, it might bring a ton of jobs with it.
That’s because Volkswagen is looking for a separate factory in the United States to build the Scout. The future site could be used to add more electric vehicles to the United States lineup too.
Volkswagen is assessing Brownfield and Greenfield locations because they are existing locations with open spaces for new construction. Volkswagen will pick a space by the end of the year, so stay tuned for updates.
Building in America could payoff for Volkswagen. Rivian recently won a $1.5 billion tax incentive package to build an EV factory in Georgia. It’s expected to cost five billion to build and create 7,500 jobs by 2028.
What do we know about the new Scout?
There isn’t a lot of information about the new Volkswagen Scout yet. However, there are a few clues to go on. The new Scout will take the name of the classic International Harvester Scout and add it to a new truck and SUV.
The first prototypes will be revealed in 2023, so we don’t have to wait much longer to see the new Scout truck and SUV. However, the first prototypes could undergo plenty of changes before entering production in 2026. Heck, the Tesla Cybertruck is still being updated.
Interestingly, the Scout will be run as an independent brand. Volkswagen shared that the Scout will be a separate unit and brand within the Volkswagen group to be managed independently.
Reportedly, Volkswagen dealerships in the United States weren’t consulted about this and seem to be in the dark. However, the VW Scout is still so new that this is hardly a surprise.
Another electric Volkswagen truck might be in the works
We know that the Volkswagen Scout is returning as an electric truck and an electric SUV, but that’s not all. According to GreenCarReports, Volkswagen is working on another electric pickup truck that’s separate from the Scout.
This part of the $7.5 billion investment to bolster the United States lineup during the next five years. Volkswagen is considering commercial vehicles for America too. So, expect a lot of new VW models to pop up.
Don’t forget about the Volkswagen ID. Buzz that will be here soon. It’s available in front-wheel and all-wheel drive. The ID.Buzz is expected to have a range of up to 275 miles, which is a nice start.
We hope that the VW Scout has a little more range to be on par with rivals. The Ford F-150 Lightning has an EPA-estimated range of 320 miles with the extended-range battery.
More information about the Volkswagen Scout should come out soon. The prototypes are almost ready to hit the stage. Also, these two new electric vehicles aren’t the only big things coming to America.
