The Next Nissan Frontier Could Be a Wild Convertible Truck
Have you ever been driving your truck and wishing that you could put the top down? Well, you aren’t alone because Nissan Frontier drivers may have been wishing for the same thing. Currently, the Jeep Gladiator is the only convertible truck, but the Nissan Frontier could get on its level.
The Nissan Frontier soft top could arrive soon
Are you ready to better connect with nature with the Nissan Frontier? Like the Jeep Gladiator, you might be able to take the top off and more.
The latest patent application by Nissan shows a Frontier model with a soft top and a pass-through section between the bed and cabin. This could be helpful with longer cargo and if there are rear seats in the bed.
We will circle back to the seats in the bed, but first, the soft top design looks similar to the Jeep Sky One-Touch power button, so it could be automatic. Also, the patent image shows plastic windows that can be removed to create that half-door feeling.
The bed is covered by a large shell that has plastic windows and what could be a plastic removable roof. Once again, that could be helpful with bulky cargo items, or passengers in the rear.
A Frontier with jump seats in the rear for extra passengers would be a truly unique option to help the truck stand out in its extremely competitive segment.
If you take a closer look, you can see that the middle has a removable bulkhead seal in the middle of the bulkhead reinforcement bracket. It looks pretty thick and may take up extra space.
However, the thickness may be to comply with DOT regulations. The front of the bed is also reinforced as a part of normal truck engineering.
The Frontier convertible is a wild possibility but things are in the early stages. First, the patent needs to be approved and then a lot of engineering will ensue to make it actually happen.
While the Frontier is due for a midcycle refresh soon, it won’t be this extreme. Generally, when a truck receives a midcycle refresh it gets a slight redesign and tech upgrades, not a brand new design.
Therefore, we might not see the Frontier convertible until the next-generation Frontier launches around 2028. But in the meantime, we can track its progress.
