Nissan Factory Exchanges Million-Mile Frontier For 2020 Model
Who knew that Nissan would reward your million miles of driving their products with a new one for free. At least that’s what it did for Nissan Frontier owner Brian Murphy. He used his 2007 Frontier for his independent delivery service. In 2007 he purchased the new Frontier from M’Lady Nissan in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Little did he know that after a million miles on the ticker the Nissan factory it was built at would exchange it for a 2020 model.
Murphy’s Frontier was the King Cab model powered by a four-cylinder and five-speed manual transmission. One of the amazing things about his million-mile Frontier truck is that very little was ever replaced. Murphy would regularly change the oil himself every 10,000 miles.
As a preventative measure, the timing chain was replaced at 700,000 miles
The Frontier is only on its second clutch. The first one lasted 801,000 miles. As a preventative measure, he replaced the timing chain at 700,000 miles. Both the radiator and alternator gave up the ghost at 450,000 miles. He needed a new seat at 500,000 miles. As for the engine, it has never been cracked open for major work or a rebuild.
When the word was out about Murphy’s million-mile Frontier Nissan jumped in. It wanted the truck to be a display piece at the factory it was built in Smyrna, Tennessee. You can see the Frontier at the Nissan Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant. It looks amazing for having a million miles that included driving in the wintery salt and snow of Chicago.
The 4×4 Frontier is an SV model with power windows and locks
Nissan now builds Frontiers at its Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant in Canton, Mississippi. That’s where Murphy’s new 2020 Frontier came from. The new truck is also a King Cab model with Nissan’s new 3.8-liter V6 with 310 hp. This is the first year for this engine, with a totally new Frontier to debut in 2021. This time Murphy went for an automatic transmission; a nine-speed. The 4×4 truck is an SV model with power windows and locks, a seven-inch touchscreen, and Apple’s Siri Eyes Free.
Styling hasn’t changed since 2004 so his truck looks identical to his previous Frontier, except he went with dark blue this time. He picked up his new 2020 at the same dealership he purchased his 2007 from M’Lady Nissan. “I’ll miss this truck, no doubt, but I’m glad it’s going back ‘home’ to Smyrna,” Murphy said in a press release. “At the same time, I’m ready for my next chapter, and I can’t wait to experience my new Frontier and its all-new powertrain. I know that this 2020 Frontier will bring the same durability that I’ve relied on for over 13 years.”
These days Murphy is looking towards retiring so he doubts he’ll ever put another million miles on his new Frontier. “I’d never say never—especially in a Frontier,” he said. Maybe he will.
