Your Nissan Frontier Might Have Transmission Problems
If you own a Nissan Frontier manufactured in 2020 or later, your pickup may have an active recall. So far, Nissan has recalled 203,223 trucks in the United States due to a transmission issue. And apparently, Nissan does not have an exact fix yet. But, if your Frontier mid-size truck is affected, you might want to start planning when you can get it to a dealership.
Does the Nissan Frontier have a recall?
Nissan’s new nine-speed transmission that is featured in the Frontier might be causing some serious issues. It is worth noting that this recall also impacts new Nissan Titan trucks as well. The problem stems from the transmission’s parking rod and wedge. This can allow the transmission to slip out of park, which obviously is not ideal.
So far, there have not been any accidents reported. But, Nissan does encourage folks to engage their parking brake, especially when parked on an incline.
How is Nissan fixing this problem?
According to The Drive, Nissan does not have a set solution for fixing this problematic transmission. And, it looks like it is going to take a lot of work in order to do so. The recall is expected to be issued at some point in November, so keep an eye on the mail in case you receive a notice.
The good thing is that the costs of repairs are on Nissan to cover. So, your responsibility is to just get your mid-size truck to the dealership. But, transmissions can take a significant amount of time to fix, especially with the current supply chain issues.
Is the Nissan Frontier a reliable truck?
Generally speaking, the Frontier has been a reliable pickup. Because the nine-speed transmission is fairly new, it is not surprising that there are some quirks to work out. But, when you are paying over $30k for a new truck, you do expect it to work properly.
Hopefully, moving forward, this is the only major recall that the Frontier faces. In terms of sales, the 2022 Nissan Frontier has marked a pretty big turnaround for this mid-size pickup. In the past, this truck has never been a top seller. But now, it’s competing with more popular vehicles like the Toyota Tacoma.
Should you buy a new Frontier?
If you are interested in a new mid-size truck, the 2022 Frontier does make a solid option. Even with its active recall. Not every single version of this truck will be impacted by the issue. For 2022, the Nissan got its first full redesign in nearly 20 years. And that makes it one of the newer pickups that are on sale today.
Plus, the Frontier still offers things like the PRO-4X trim. And that helps it to be a legitimate off-road vehicle. Of course, in today’s market, finding a new pickup truck is no easy task. Manufacturers are still having issues getting vehicles to dealerships. So, that is another problem that faces this truck in addition to its active recall.
