The Nissan Frontier has long been a mid-size truck offered by the Nissan brand. And recently, it has found some serious success with its new generation. The 2022 Frontier comes standard with a V6 engine and offers a variety of trim levels. One of these trims is the PRO-X which should not be mistaken for the Frontier PRO-4X. So, what is the 2022 Nissan Frontier PRO-X, and is it a truck that folks should be buying?

What is the Nissan PRO-X package?

The Nissan PRO-X package is available to the Frontier pickup truck, it offers some off-road features but does not have the same capability as the PRO-4X trim. It is only available with the crew cab and rear-wheel drive. So if you are shopping for a four-wheel-drive truck, you will want to look elsewhere. 

Notable features include an improved interior with red stitching and leather trim. Additionally, there is a 9.0-inch touchscreen to provide you with modern connectivity.

Should you buy the 2022 Nissan Frontier PRO-X?

If you do not need a truck with 4WD, but still want something aggressive, the PRO-X package is ideal to purchase. It has a starting cost of $35,120, which isn’t exactly cheap, but it is affordable when compared to some other trucks. Better yet, this mid-size truck can tow up to 6,470 pounds and haul up to 1,430 lbs in payload. Which gives this vehicle legitimate usability.

According to Car and Driver, each 2022 Nissan Frontier pickup truck comes equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 engine. This engine will provide you with 319 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. While other trucks make you pay extra for the power of a V6, the Frontier is still doing things old-school. 

The 2022 Frontier PRO-X is a competent pickup truck?

Although the PRO-X is not available with 4WD, it is still a decent truck. Not everyone looking to buy a pickup wants or needs power going to all four wheels. And, the Frontier is still a proper rear-wheel-drive truck without this feature.

Plus, this truck does come with things like Bilstein off-road shocks, which does help this truck stay comfortable during light off-road sessions. Also beneficial is the more aggressive looks through things like 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

Don’t overlook the Frontier

While the Nissan Frontier hasn’t typically been the best-selling mid-size truck, the latest generation is showing itself to be quite popular. In the early months of 2022, it has been selling extremely well, and when you consider what it brings to that table, that makes sense. It may not be as refined as other trucks on the market, but some prefer the old-school feel that Nissan offers.
