So what we have here is a “work in progress,” according to its owner. It was spotted at the Slam Fest in Tampa, Florida. This started out as a 1987 Nissan Hardbody pickup. We guess you could say it no longer functions as a pickup. But it is somewhat of a spectacle with its orange and white bed liner finish and body mods in progress. And can we say that the modifications are rather extreme?

Where do we start to describe this Nissan pickup?

Images captured by the Florida car club Dropt At Birth, we can bring you this spectacle in living color. Starting at the front, you’re looking at a Nissan Murano fascia bonked into the fenders. It looks like it needs some tweaking and the headlights cleaned up, but those are minor considerations when you consider the cludging all of that into what was once its boxy front end. Dual fake scoops festoon the hood.

The top got the ax if you hadn’t noticed. What was left of the doors is now filled in. Without doors, you need some way to get into the thing. So sheet metal was removed and the remainder got boxed. So now passengers have a way to get in and out of the interior. It’s a little lumpy, but as we said, it’s a work in progress.

Wedged between the windshield and body are white speakers on each side. Whether good or bad, they become part of the body. More speakers are prominently displayed behind the cab and also the bed. The owner must really like how they look. And subwoofers are visible through a sheet of clear plex to help crowd the bed. Behind it is a hydraulic tank and hoses for the admirer’s perusal.

Moving to the rear, the Cadillac taillights become the corners of the truck. They start at the top of the bed and don’t end until almost at the bottom of the tail pan. Wedged between them are Cadillac backup lights and license plate indent. We notice the tailgate latch remains, we suppose as some sort of design feature. Again, you can’t have too much clean space. Above that is a rather bulky wing because you must have a wing.

Speakers are everywhere, as are wavy body panels

Inside the cabin, tiny seats get the driver and passenger down low. There continue to be an assortment of speakers just because. A covered console continues back to a trap door to access the audio components in the bed. Or, at least that’s what we assume.

With the console occupied with speakers and such, where does one put drinks? Stainless steel cup holders are hogged into the door ledge, or what’s left of it. A black sound deadener or fiberglass mat (we can’t tell which) covers the floor. We would expect that carpet will eventually cover it.

In all, it is a rather busy project with something happening anywhere and everywhere you look. The owner says the bed liner is only until he can get back to his styling job on the truck. But he wanted to enjoy it for a bit before digging back in. We expect that with gallons of Bondo and time sanding it down, he’ll get the lumps, bumps, and misalignments taken care of. Just don’t hit a pothole too hard or the body may crack apart.
