There is no doubt about it. SUVs are dominating auto sales not only all over the United States but all over the world. In the past three years alone, SUV sales have surged by 2.3 million units.

While Nissan has already been on top of the market with its best-selling Armada, as well Pathfinder, another one of its SUV models has been spotted being tested.

According to FormaCar, Nissan has just begun to unveil, not the latest, but the future incarnation of one of its most popular SUV models in Europe: the Juke.

The Juke was discontinued in America but remains very popular in Europe. So, what do we know about the all-new 2020 Nissan Juke?

The return of the SUV

The functional and hip SUV is becoming the car of choice for more and more drivers on the road. Once seen as exclusively for the outdoor enthusiasts or adventurists among us (or maybe just a friendlier version of a pickup truck), SUVs have definitely gone mainstream.

Today, you will not only see them on the ranch or farm but everywhere else you look, as well. It seems that everyone now relies on the scrappy SUV, from retirees touring the highways to adventurists and survivalist-types seeking out new hiking trails or exploring ancient ruins.

What’s new in the 2020 Nissan Juke?

The shapeliness of the previous iterations of the Juke has been slightly modified, as have the taillights, which are now horizontal rather than slanted. The headlights are now smooth sleek-looking LEDs peaking out of Nissan’s own V-Motion grille. This completes the look of the 2020 redesign. The mirrors are slightly lower, but the rear door handles have not moved.

The 2020 Nissan Juke is built on the CMF-B platform, much like the Renault Clio. This boasts an impressive amount of space for its size.

This could hopefully mean the Juke is slightly bigger as well. However, the bigger story is the CMF-B’s support for hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain systems, which leads to the most exciting news.

There will be a hybrid version of the Juke

The engines available for the 2020 Nissan Juke will be varied and should satisfy the needs of every driver. They will be able to choose between two gas engines: a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder and a 1.3-liter unit. Unfortunately, no more information on these engines has been disclosed yet. There will be an additional 1.5-liter diesel option. Higher trims will have access to four-wheel drive.

The new hybrid variant is a 1.6 liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engine coupled with an electric motor capable of carrying the Juke up to 20 miles on its own.

The 2020 Nissan Juke will be the first compact crossover with a hybrid plug-in option. No doubt, this is huge news for anyone wanting to see what all the hype is about with SUVs but are wanting a more environmentally friendly version.

The Present…and Future Is SUV

The popularity of the SUV is only going to get bigger and bigger as more drivers discover the secret that has been out for a long time already. SUVs aren’t only for the rugged outdoor type of people anymore. Families and other city dwellers are saying goodbye to the traditional sedan-type cars. They’re embracing the extra room and power that can take them on a trip to the country as well as to the post office.

This trend is going to continue. Car companies are competing for price points and performance in a very crowded market that will grow rapidly. Nissan is already preparing for the next decade.
