Most people don’t want their SUVs or homes to go up in flames. But unfortunately, unexpected disasters can suddenly strike. One family is lucky to be alive after their Nissan Murano randomly exploded.

A Nissan Murano explosion nearly burns a family home

A family from Bethesda, Maryland is lucky to be alive after their 2015 Nissan Murano exploded, nearly catching their home on fire.

It was a normal Tuesday morning on May 14, 2024, until the SUV exploded around 5:45 AM. The Hill family was fast asleep until their seven-year-old and five-year-old twins woke up to the sounds of airbags deploying due to a raging SUV fire.

A doorbell camera caught the entire situation with a time-lapse video that shows smoke coming out from under the hood before the Murano erupted into flames.

Vicki Hill shared that at first, they thought someone was breaking into their home before her husband realized their car was burning.

The Hill family immediately exited their home and called 911. Firefighters quickly put the fire out, but things could have been much worse.

If the Nissan Murano was parked inside the garage, then it would have exploded near a mud room with a gas line in it. The entire home could have blown up.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the owner thinks the issue could be related to the ABS actuator seal.

Nissan has issued a recall for this part used in 2015 – 2019 models due to a potential leak risk that could cause electrical problems and increase the risk of fire. Their ABS actuator was worked on, with a receipt to prove it.

This has spurred an investigation as Nissan technicians arrived one week later to evaluate what happened. But Nissan hasn’t shared any additional information.

However, Nissan did explain that the safety of its customers is extremely important. An investigation into this incident has been launched and they will get back to the Hill family.
