Nissan’s Hyper Punk electric compact crossover is an electric concept vehicle that will appear at the Japan Mobility Show (which starts on October 26th) and in the Fortnite video game. That’s right, the international hit game Fortnite by Epic Games will feature a digital version of the Nissan Hyper Punk electric SUV. It’s unclear what capacity gamers can interact with the EV in, but knowing Epic Games, it’ll be an epic collaboration.

The Nissan Hyper Punk concept vehicle is one of many new Nissan concept vehicles. Competitors like Toyota and Kia have teased upcoming electric vehicle silhouettes. Nissan is getting in on the fun and showing what the next generation of Nissan vehicles could look like in the years to come. While the Hyper Punk is clearly far removed from most vehicles the brand currently produces, is it really such a far leap from the Ariya that it’s not feasible within this decade?

On the contrary, the Hyper Punk’s Fornite appearance may be the brand planting the seeds for a future interest in a similar Nissan vehicle in the future. After all, Fortnite’s target audience is made up of young consumers who may eventually purchase or lease a vehicle at some point in their lives. A gaming experience with the Hyper Punk concept vehicle could inspire the purchase of a similar Nissan vehicle a decade from now.

Does Nissan make good electric vehicles?

Nissan does not produce many vehicles as of 2023. In fact, it lags behind many rivals like Hyundai Motor Company and Ford, but it has a head start over Honda. Nissan currently produces one fully electric SUV for North America, and it isn’t exactly selling like hotcakes. Its electric car, the Nissan Leaf, isn’t a sales hit either.

The current most popular electric vehicles in America are the Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3. Nissan’s electric vehicles are decent, but they don’t have the specs or appeal to compete with fierce rivals like Tesla (at least for the moment).

Why the Nissan Hyper Punk is exciting

Aside from the obvious captivating exterior design, the Hyper Punk is interesting for a number of reasons. It shows that Nissan’s design team is capable of dreaming up a vehicle that’s unlike anything on the market. The vehicle incorporates touches of Japanese culture, like an origami-inspired interior with exterior features that hardly seem of this world.

The Nissan Hyper Punk electric concept compact crossover is a visually stunning EV. There’s no telling whether we’ll get a production iteration, but it sure is an exciting possibility.
