Is the Nissan Titan a 300,000 Mile Truck?
It seems like time and time again; folks say the Nissan Titan is a full-size truck that comes up short. Compared to its rivals, it is easy to write off the Titan as expensive and lackluster. But beneath the surface, it seems like something keeps people returning to this truck. One of those things might be its longevity and its 5.6-liter V8 engine.
How long does the Nissan Titan last?
With proper care, the Nissan Titan truck can last over 300,000 miles. In 2020, the Titan did get a light makeover, but since 2017, it’s gone largely unchanged. At this point, under the hood of every Nissan Titan lies a 5.6-liter V8 engine that makes 400 horsepower and 413 pound-foot of torque.
It’s this powerplant that sets this Nissan truck apart from its rivals. In a world where you can no longer get a new Toyota Tundra with a V8, the Titan makes it standard.
When it comes to full-size trucks, one of the biggest points consumers focus on is longevity. Pickups are expensive, and you do expect them to last for a while. While the diesel engine on the old Titan might be able to last longer, the 5.6-liter V8 can also stand up to the miles.
Is the Nissan Titan a reliable truck?
J.D. Power has given the 2023 Titan a solid reliability score. In fact, it gets a “Great” score of 85 out of 100. Meanwhile, a truck like the Ram 1500 has an “Average” score of just 80 out of 100. It’s things like that which make this pickup attractive to a certain segment of buyer.
According to Vehicle History, a modern Titan should be able to go over 200,000 miles with proper maintenance. And on some of the Nissan forums, it seems folks have achieved 300,000 miles or more.
Unless it’s owned by someone who drives a lot, it’s unlikely a newer Nissan Titan will have 200,000 miles. The average person drives less than 14,000 miles per year. So it will probably be a while before we see a truly high-mileage 2023 Titan on the roads.
Is Nissan discontinuing its truck?
Unfortunately, it looks like the Titan could be on the chopping block. Nissan has already discontinued its full-size truck in Canada, and signs point to the same thing happening here in the States.
Nissan gave the Frontier midsize truck a full redesign for the 2022 model year. Meanwhile, the Titan has gone largely unchanged for years now. You can no longer get it with the Cummins turbodiesel engine, and some options have been slimmed down.
At the end of the day, even if this full-size truck is discontinued, it doesn’t seem like reliability has gone down. Sure, there are always going to be some issues, but with proper maintenance and repair, those can be handled. It seems like that is the key to having a truck that lasts a long time.
