We’re often jealous when other countries get cooler versions of vehicles, such as the Nissan Rogue. Across the pond, Europeans get the Nissan X-Trail which sounds a lot more confident than the Rogue. Plus, it has more power trains that could really help the 2022 Nissan Rogue. 

Are the 2022 Nissan Rogue and X-Trail the same?

The 2022 Nissan Rogue and Nissan X-Trail are almost identical and look the exact same. However, the X-Trail is available with a third-row and hybrid powertrains. We only have a single engine choice for the Rogue in America. 

In the states, the Rogue is equipped with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with 201 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8.4 seconds, which is adequate for the class. 

But the 2022 Nissan X-Trail has e-POWER hybrids. According to AutoBlog, the front-wheel drive version pairs the American engine with an electric motor, providing about 201 hp. 

The all-wheel drive option or the e-4ORCE model adds a 126-hp motor to the rear and cranks out 211 hp. The dual motor setup provides power to each wheel without the need for a transfer case or rear drive shaft. 

Can the Rogue keep up? 

The 2022 Nissan Rogue might need the hybrid powertrains to keep up with rivals such as the Toyota RAV4 hybrid, Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, Honda CR-V Hybrid, and more. Some of the competition even have PHEV powertrains available. 

With the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, you get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electric motor to crank out 219 hp. It gets an EPA-estimated 41 mpg in the city and up to 38 mpg on the highway. 

The Rogue gets an EPA-estimated 30 mpg in the city and up to 37 mpg on the highway. It’s not too far behind, but the hybrid powertrains could help it close the gap or get a better fuel economy than the RAV4. 

Plus, the Rogue could use a little more muscle. It can only tow up to 1,500 lbs, while the RAV4 can tow up to 3,500 lbs. 

The Roge is sometimes criticized for having a sluggish acceleration, but hybrid power could provide instant torque for a more engaging experience. But perhaps the hybrid systems don’t meet American emission standards.

What’s new for the 2023 Rogue?

Rumors suggest that the 2023 Nissan Rogue will be primarily a carryover model. It was just redesigned two years ago, so it still seems pretty fresh. However, we hope it gains the hybrid setups from the Nissan X-Trail. 

The Rogue Midnight Edition adds 18-inch black wheels, a black grille, black roof rails, and black badging for a more confident look. It also has leatherette upholstery, a power liftgate, a moonroof, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. 

We could see the hybrid powertrains in America by the end of the year, but nothing has been confirmed. We aren’t sure why the hybrid options are for the Nissan X-Trail when they could help the Rogue compete.
