Is the 2023 Subaru WRX worth more than the Honda Civic Si? While the 2023 WRX has more horsepower, an automatic transmission option, standard all-wheel drive (AWD), and a slick-looking hood scoop, the Civic Si might be sporty enough and fit your daily life better. Let’s look at the strengths and weaknesses of both cars

How much does a 2023 Subaru WRX cost compared to a 2023 Honda Civic Si?

For this comparison, we’ll look at each automaker’s online pricing tool to get an estimated out-the-door price. Still, remember that the MSRP is a “suggested retail price” often altered at the dealership based on location, taxes, and dealer-installed options.

Subaru lists the following starting MSRP for each 2023 WRX model with a note best summarized as saying that’s not the final price:

  • WRX Base – $30,605
  • WRX Premium – $33,105
  • WRX Limited – $37,495
  • WRX GT – $43,395

In contrast, Honda only provides a single Civic Si model from which to choose:

  • Civic Si – $28,800

2023 Subaru WRX Base trim pricing and options

The WRX Base model provides several exterior color options at no charge and only has a black-cloth interior. While no package upgrades are available, Subaru presents several accessory options ranging from a single disc CD player to mudflaps and a rear spoiler. The most desirable options for a Rally-inspired sports car are:

  • Aluminum Engine Under Guard for $199.95
  • STI Performance Mufflers – WRX for $1,205

Without adding any options, the price after Subaru’s $1,020 Destination & Delivery charge comes to $31,625.

2023 Subaru WRX Premium trim pricing and options

Like the Base trim, the WRX Premium trim offers several exterior color options and a black cloth interior at no additional charge. However, at this level, the $1,875 Option Package 12 becomes available with the following:

  • Harman Kardon premium audio system
  • Power Moonroof

The list of optional accessories is identical except for the addition of the LED Fog Light Trim for $499,95. Without these options, the final MSRP is $34,125.

2023 Subaru WRX Limited trim pricing and options

The WRX Limited trim offers the same no-cost exterior color options but upgrades the interior to a black Ultrasuade material. Since the Limited trim comes with the Premium’s Option Package 12 as standard equipment, it offers no additional package upgrades. However, it does allow the same accessory options as the Premium trim. With the ever-present destination and delivery charges, the WRX Limited costs $38,515.

2023 Subaru WRX GT trim pricing and options

The 2023 Subaru WRX GT offers the same no-cost exterior color options, black Ultrasuede interior, lack of package upgrades, and accessory options as the Limited trim. However, the GT has Recaro performance front seats, electronically adjustable suspension dampers, selectable drive modes, and a performance automatic transmission equipped with paddle shifters.

2023 Honda Civic Si pricing and options

The 2023 Honda Civic Si offers three no-cost exterior color options and three others that cost $455 each. The Civic Si provides the following four package upgrade options:

  • All-Season Protection Package I – $420
  • All-Season Protection Package II – $370
  • HPD Package – $1,130
  • Protection Package I – $300

There are also several accessory options for the Civic Si, including all-season floor mats, rear passenger window shades, and various body effect panels. Without any upgrades or accessory options, the final price, including Honda’s $1,095 Destination & Handling Fees, comes to $29,895.

How is the Civic Si superior to the WRX?

Car and Driver says the 2023 Honda Civic Si is “built with affordability and driving enthusiasts in mind.” However, compared to the 2023 WRX, it has less horsepower and lacks AWD, but it offers superior fuel economy, a more comfortable ride and handling, and a comfortable, attractive interior. In summary, while the WRX might make a better car for track days, the Civic Si is more economical, more comfortable, and almost as sporty at a lower price.
