Updates about the highly anticipated Telsa Cybertruck are like an emotional rollercoaster! Sometimes the news is good and exciting, but other times the delays make you feel like it’s gone off the rails. Just when things were on the up and up, new Tesla Cybertruck delays are bringing us back down.
New Tesla Cybertruck delays are slowing production again
Waiting for the Tesla Cybertruck to debut has been a wild ride since 2019. We’ve already seen the first deliveries get pushed back from 2020 until 2024. However, expecting your Cybertruck model to arrive by 2024 is very optimistic.
According to MotorTrend, documents about Cybertruck problems and delays were leaked. A whistler blower from Germany shared 100 GB of files that show how far behind production really is.
Tesla Cybertruck production is severely behind schedule and could be plagued by fundamental flaws with its design and engineering. The Cybertruck may need to correct problems related to the structure, sealing, suspension, braking, and powertrain.
What are the potential Cybertruck problems?
The biggest Tesla Cybertruck problem is related to the brakes and suspension tuning. On the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) rating scale, Tesla engineers were hoping to achieve a score of 7.0 out of 10.
This would be a fair rating, but the Cybertruck actually earned a 4.0, which is poor. It displayed excessive brake pedal travel, brake dive, and inconsistent stops. Customers could be very dissatisfied with its behavior.
Plus, the suspension has excessive body roll and floats at medium speeds. It also feels heavy and cumbersome under acceleration. The front wheels toe out after hitting potholes, and the rear wheels toe-in while braking.
It could be caused by the throttle input, which causes a head toss acceleration with excessive mid-speed abruptness and chop. The suspension might need to be redesigned. The steering is laggy, and the crab walk functionality is very basic.
Elon Musk is proud of the Tesla Cybertruck’s exoskeleton design, but it’s 32% less stiff than rivals, meaning it faces weak torsional rigidity.
This isn’t good for off-roading, towing, or hauling. The solution involves adding struts, making it heavier. This may add to the suspension and braking issues while impacting its towing performance and range.
The steel frame of one prototype has 21 noise leaks, which isn’t good for a peaceful cabin or staying dry. The panels don’t have a clear path for sealing. Software issues with the autopilot modes and safety functions are also a concern.
How long is the wait for a Cybertruck?
At this point, the wait for a Tesla Cybertruck was only supposed to be about four months away. In April 2023, Musk shared that deliveries would begin by the end of the third quarter of the year. So, it’s still possible for the Cybertruck to hit the streets by September.

Tesla may have spent the last few months fixing and improving the Cybertruck to help meet production and scheduling goals. Musk still seems confident about the Mass Cybertruck production beginning in 2024.
