No, the Toyota Corolla Does Not Come All-Wheel Drive – Here Are 5 Alternatives
Many Toyota models have all-wheel drive capability available. This is an ideal option for consumers in the northern states, where winter weather is known to play havoc on road conditions. However, the 2021 Toyota Corolla does not have all-wheel drive available. So, what are some other 2021 small vehicles under $25,000 that do?
2021 Toyota Corolla
According to the Toyota website, the lineup of all-wheel drive vehicles does not include the Toyota Corolla. It is conspicuously absent. I say conspicuously because it is one of only a few models in the entire lineup that do not have the capability. The Supra and C-HR are the others. However, other small all-wheel drive vehicles are available on the market. Here are only five alternatives (there are several more).
2021 Subaru Impreza
All trim levels of the Impreza comes with all-wheel drive. According to their website, the starting price for the car is $18,795. US News and World Report said,
“It’s somewhat sporty and boasts an intuitive infotainment system and plenty of passenger space. Another plus is the Impreza’s standard all-wheel drive, which is rare – even as an option – in this class. With a continuously variable automatic transmission, the Impreza offers great fuel economy too. However, its lackluster acceleration and awful predicted reliability rating may give some shoppers pause.”
2021 Chevrolet Trax
The Chevy Trax is all-wheel capable beginning in the LS trim. Price of entry for it is $21,515 according to the Chevy website. US News and World Reports didn’t seem to enthused by the vehicle. They said,
“Though it boasts easy maneuverability and a good number of standard infotainment features, this Chevy’s pros don’t outweigh its cons. This small crossover suffers from lackluster interior materials, and both rows of seats need some extra cushioning. Fuel economy estimates are adequate but underwhelming given the small size of the engine and its lack of horsepower.”
2021 Hyundai Kona
The Kona has all-wheel drive as an available option for all trims levels. According to the Hyundai website, the car starts at $21,800 for entry to all-wheel drive. US News and World Report said of the Kona,
“The Kona rides smoothly and handles well, on top of getting good gas mileage. Inside, the cabin looks good and feels upscale, and the front seats are superb. There’s a nice assortment of features, including a user-friendly infotainment system.”
2021 Jeep Renegade
The Sport trim level of the Renegade is available with all-wheel drive. According to the Jeep website, the starting price equipped this way is $23,075. US News and World Report’s review said,
“The Renegade has a stylish cabin with relatively roomy seating space, a sizable cargo area, and an easy-to-use infotainment system. It remains stable around turns, and it rides comfortably over rough pavement. Despite its diminutive size, the Renegade is a surprisingly plucky off-roader, especially in its Trailhawk configuration. This Jeep comes standard with lots of active safety features as well.”
2021 Mazda3
The Mazda3 is another alternative available with all-wheel drive. The Mazda3 is available in several trim levels with all-wheel drive capability. According to the Mazda website, the starting price for the Select with all-wheel drive is $24,100. US News and World Report had these words for the car,
“The Mazda3 is an outstanding compact car that’s a blast to drive. It comes in two body styles: sedan and hatchback. No matter which one you select, you’ll get an agile vehicle with responsive steering and braking, as well as a peppy engine. Inside, the Mazda3 looks upscale, and it has plenty of user-friendly features. This car’s main drawback is cramped seating in the rear.”
A Toyota Corolla is a good little car. But, if you want all-wheel drive you’ll have to look elsewhere. Alternatives that are similar in price to the Corolla (under $25,000) are out there. In this case, we only covered five possibilities. More exist. So, don’t get discouraged with searching. You’ll find them.
