You usually expect crazy stories to begin with ‘Florida Man,’ but today we have a surprise from Charlotte, North Carolina instead. Toward the home of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, a group of racers used Dodge Chargers to turn I-77 into their personal racetrack. The cops were called after reports and donuts but found the wild Dodge Charger unit instead of delicious snacks. 

North Carolina drivers use Dodge Charger models to race 

According to WSOCTV, Southbound Interstate 77 was shut down on Friday night by a group of drivers in Dodge Chargers. The drivers blocked the lanes to have a little fun just in time for the return of NASCAR. 

Now, there is no correlation between the Charger fleet and NASCAR racing. It just happened so close to the Nascar Hall of Fame. It’s hard to imagine that the racing trend in Charlotte, NC, is just a coincidence. 

However, the drivers acted in an incredibly dangerous manner. They stopped traffic to perform donuts, burnouts, and tons of other stunts. Camera footage showed people frustrated as traffic backed up for miles and others filmed the stunts. 

The NC police missed the Chargers 

The incident happened around 11 PM near the Tyvola Road exit. One witness said about 30 Dodge Charger models drove past her and blocked the southbound lanes. With no cops around, this created a scary situation, and she may not take I-77 at night again. 

State troopers responded to multiple 911 calls, but the group was gone by the time they arrived. They suggest calling *47 if anyone has any information about the vehicles or their license plate numbers. Also, try to remember the license plate numbers of any vehicles involved in dangerous activities like this. 

But why use Chargers?

So, you can definitely get a Dodge Charger with some muscle. The SRT Hellcat can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 3.6 seconds, according to Road and Track. It provides a sporty performance that rivals can’t match, despite being an older model that’s very thirsty. 

According to Edmunds, the Charger has comfortable seats with plenty of support. However, you can feel bumps in the road. Plus, you can hear wind noise in the cabin even though the Charge is packed with noise-canceling insulation.
