Not Again, Ford F-150 Trucks Have Another Rollaway Risk
New year, same quality issues with the Ford F-150. We were just talking about how the Ford F-150 failed to end the year without another massive recall (related to faulty airbags). After only a couple of days into 2024, there’s another recall. Over 112,000 Ford F-150 models have a rollaway risk.
2023 Ford F-150 recall alert due to axle hub bolt issues
Roughly 112,965 Ford F-150 trucks from 2021 to 2023 that are equipped with the Tow Max Duty package are under recall due to a new rollaway risk.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) shared that the rear axle hub bolt could fatigue and break, which may damage the axle hub splines.
As a result, the vehicle could roll away while in park, without the parking brake on. It may also cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.
Ford will begin notifying affected owners via mail by the end of January. The number for this recall is 23S65. You can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 with any questions that you may have.
Here’s where things get awkward. Ford doesn’t have a fix for this problem yet. Ford is working on a fix that will be shared with dealerships and owners soon.
If you hear a clicking or rattling noise associated with the rear axle bolt visit a local dealership for a temporary fix.
This isn’t the first F-150 rollaway problem
Back in February 2023, there was another recall for the 2023 Ford F-150 related to a rollaway risk. The recall involved 2022 – 2023 F-150 models equipped with the automatic transmission.
The transmissions may have been installed with a loose bolt that could prevent the transmission from engaging in the park gear. However, the gear shifter may indicate that you’re in park.
The inability to properly secure the truck in park increases the risk of rolling away, accidents, and injuries. The transmissions were replaced at no charge to owners.
