Novus E-Bikes Sell For Whopping $55,000!
It’s trick-looking, that’s for sure. But the German-made Novus One E-Bike has a whopping price tag. A whopping $55,000 price tag. And pre-orders are being taken with first shipments starting in mid-2022. Will there be a lot of demand for a $55,000 e-bike?
We first got a glimpse of the One e-bike at the 2019 CES Show in Las Vegas. With development and testing completed, Novus is ready to start manufacturing bikes. So what do you get for $55,000?
The Novus One frame is carbon fiber monocoque
First, it starts with a carbon fiber monocoque frame. The carbon fiber continues for the swingarm, 18-inch wheels, and the fork-which hides the springs in the steering tube. Those lightweight pieces translate into an e-bike that weighs 165 lbs.
Power comes from an 18 kW motor fed by a 4.3 kWh lithium-ion battery. That’s enough to give the One 148 ft-lbs of torque for a top speed of 75 mph. It also has a range of 62-miles, which can be recharged to 80-percent in 30 minutes.
The Novus One hub-mounted motos acts as the rear brake
In front, there are 3.5-inches of travel in the suspension, while in the rear the shock gives 4.3-inches of travel. There is a two-piston disc brake in the front, but the hub-mount motor takes care of braking in the rear.
Tech includes keyless starting, three riding modes, navigation, and smartphone connectivity. LED lighting is to be expected, with wireless upgrades part of the package as well. So it has lots of features and looks very cool. But again; will all of that persuade lots of buyers to step up to a $55,000 price?
This e-bike has been in development for two years
Novus is located in Brunswick, but having been shown at the CES Show it is expected to make our shores sometime next year. You probably won’t see too many around, if you see any at all. But the One will definitely get your attention if there is one around.
Our expectation is that similar e-bikes will start showing up that are similar to the One, but with less of the expensive pieces, for a lot less. So the One is a stalking horse of sorts for the industry to see how it is received, and how it sells.
