Now the 2022 Ford F-150 Is Losing Even More Features
Say it isn’t so. We don’t want the Ford F-150 to drop even more features. However, the ongoing semi-conductor chip shortage is impacting the 2022 Ford F-150 again. Let’s see which features will be missed.
The 2022 Ford F-150 cuts more features
It’s like the 2022 Ford F-150, and other popular trucks and SUVs can’t catch a break as supply chain shortages continue to impact the entire automotive industry. Ford has been working on filling a massive backlog of orders as storage lots fill up.
Tons of Ford F-150 models are just sitting without the chips needed for completion. As a result, Ford cut a few nonessential features to help get trucks out the door. One of the features includes the Max Recline seats.
Even though the Max Recline seats are only temporarily missing, we will miss them. We see them as an essential feature for taking comfortable naps at worksites. It’s an exclusive feature that could attract buyers. Now packages with desirable convenience features are being dropped.
Which F-150 packages are being dropped?
The 2022 Ford F-150 is temporarily dropping the Ford Co-Pilot Assist 2.0 package, Connected Navigation, and Built-in Connected Navigation. We don’t see losing the navigation features as much of a problem.
You can still use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for navigation. But those who would rather use the Ford system instead of a smartphone are temporarily out of luck.
Also, the navigation systems require owners to prepay for three years of its service. That seems a little extreme when other Bluetooth devices offer free navigation.
The Ford Co-Pilot Assist 2.0 package includes Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Stop-and-Go, evasive steering assistance, intersection assistance, lane centering, and traffic sign recognition.
Based on the models we’ve driven, the adaptive cruise control feature will be missed the most. It’s excellent for adjusting your speed automatically based on the vehicles around you in traffic.
Also, the stop-in-go feature works efficiently and quickly. The engine fires back up without delay to allow drivers to get off the line at red lights quickly. Other systems have a bit of a delay. It’s unclear if chips can be added for these features later.
Will the 2022 F-150 lose even more features?
As the chip shortage continues, the 2022 Ford F-150 might drop even more features to deliver trucks to owners as fast as possible. People have already been waiting on their trucks to arrive for months.
Plus, the ordering books for the 2022 F-150 have already closed. Meaning, that if you want a brand new truck, you might have to wait for the 2023 Ford F-150 order banks to open. However, you might get lucky and find a 2022 model on a dealer lot.
The same features might be temporarily unavailable for the 2023 model too. But we won’t know what’s available until the order configurator goes online.
It’s possible that the chip shortage could ease up by the end of the year, but it could impact 2023 as well. We will keep an eye on the Ford F-150 and other popular models like the Ford Bronco to see how they adapt.
