One of the Fastest Hybrids on the Market Costs Less Than a Hummer EV
Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and some hybrid supercars are pushing the envelope of explosive acceleration. What’s more, while the now-discontinued Acura NSX Type S demanded the better part of $200,000, Chevrolet’s latest hybrid supercar has a much more accessible price tag. In fact, the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray 1LZ starts at a lower point than the Hummer EV3X.
The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray forges a path into uncharted territory for the historic American performance nameplate. Sure, it’s the first hybrid-electric Corvette in the model’s lineup. However, it’s also the first factory all-wheel drive (AWD) Corvette ever. That means multiplied grip, and, as a result, volcanic thrust.
Specifically, the 655-horsepower E-Ray will sprint to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. That’s quicker than the 2022 Acura NSX Type S and the 2024 McLaren Artura, gold standards among hybrid supercars. What’s more, the ‘Vette will continue on its mad dash all the way to a 10.6-second quarter mile.
Better yet, in typical Corvette fashion, the E-Ray undercuts the price points of its nearest competitors.

The entry-level Corvette E-Ray 1LZ Coupe starts at around $106,565. Admittedly, that’s a steep ask considering the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray’s $69,995 starting point. Still, you can snag the keys to one of the fastest American cars ever made for less than GMC’s monstrous Hummer EV3X.
That said, the range-topping 3LZ Convertible pushes the model’s starting price to $124,545. In that price territory, fans are considering a Porsche 911 Carrera or even one of the E-Ray’s closest siblings: the Z06. Therein lies an issue. Unless you’re after hybrid fuel economy or daily-driver-friendly AWD grip, the C8 Z06 promises a much more engaging– and musical– ride.
Of course, the E-Ray isn’t the first model to change the Corvette mold. In 2020, Chevrolet released the first production mid-engine Corvette. Gone were the front-engine layouts of the C7 model lineup. Now, four years later, the Corvette lineup boasts a flat-plane V8-powered range-topper and a world-class hybrid supercar.
