It seems like Ford underestimated the demand for its new and super-popular Maverick pickup truck. Many dealerships have sold out of 2022 Mavericks and the Ford Maverick inventory is low at many. The order books won’t even open for 2023 until August 15. Sure, there are still a few Maverick’s left on dealer lots, but if you want to get the one you want instead of the one that’s simply available, there is one trick: Ditch the luxury packages.

The new Maverick pickup truck is hard to come by, and when the order books open for 2023 we’re sure there will be long lines. Consumers, and probably dealers, too, will be ticking as many boxes as they can on Ford’s ordering website to build a new 2023 Maverick. But, FordAuthority.com says that the most supply-constrained versions of the Maverick are the XLT Luxury and the Lariat Luxury packages and those with Ford’s Co-Pilot360 driver safety package. It makes sense during the chip shortage that the models with the most tech would have the most chips.

The one Ford Maverick trick? Don’t order one of those packages. Nobody will fault you for ordering a non-luxury Maverick. The base truck, which starts at $19,995, comes with a hybrid motor that gets more than 40 mpg, and several options. The Ford Maverick inventory at your local dealer is probably low.

What is in the XLT Luxury and Lariat Luxury packages?

The base Maverick pickup truck comes well appointed. But the XLT Luxury package, which is a $2,500 option, adds a lot. It comes with an eight-way driver and six-way passenger seat, a power inverter, heated seats, remote start, heated steering wheel, and more inside. In the bed, you get rails with two locking brackets, a bed liner, a trailer hitch with a connector, and a windshield wiper de-icer. The XLT starts at $22,360.

The Lariat starts at $25,860 and the Lariat Luxury Package is a $3,750 option. It includes the same goodies from the Lariat package, but adds a four-way headrest, a B&O sound system, an upgraded version of the Ford Co-Pliot360 with adaptive cruise and evasive steering, Ford’s SYNC3 voice-acticated system, and a wireless charging pad. You also get more sensors, a different touchscreen, and more. The Lariat Luxury Package turns the economy-focused Maverick into a very nice place to be, with trendy brown trim, to boot.

What is Ford Co-Pilot360 on the Maverick pickup truck?

The Ford Co-Pilot360 is a $650 option on the Maverick pickup truck. It is included in the Lariat Luxury Package, and available on the XL, XLT and Lariat trims. The system comes with blind-spot alert, a lane keeping system, and automatic emergency braking. It also has a rear-view camera. On some Fords you can order the Co-Pilot360 Assist+, which adds adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, and post-collision braking. Many of the Assist+ options, such as evasive steering and adaptive cruise, come with the Lariat Luxury Package.
