Only 1 All-Wheel Drive Car Gets 50 MPG
There are many all-wheel vehicles on the market today. However, in many cases, using an all-wheel drive sacrifices a bit of fuel economy. That being said, there is one vehicle that offers the best of both worlds when it comes to fuel efficiency and all-wheel drive usability. You’ll be dashing through the snow right past the gas station in this all-wheel drive car that gets over 50 mpg!
2022 Toyota Prius XLE AWD-e is an all-wheel drive hybrid!
According to TrueCar, the one and only vehicle that has an all-wheel drive drivetrain and still manages to pump out over 50 miles per gallon is the Toyota Prius. That’s relatively unsurprising, as the Toyota Prius is one of the pioneers in ultimate fuel efficiency. So, it makes sense that it would be a fuel-efficient AWD pioneer, too. However, not many folks even know that the Prius is available in all-wheel drive format!
The 2022 Toyota Prius XLE AWD-e has a starting MSRP of $31,220, according to TrueCar. With available options, the price can easily extend upwards of $35,000. However, having the legendary fuel economy of the Toyota Prius combined with an all-wheel drive powertrain makes those prices seem pretty reasonable.
As with any all-wheel drive car, you do sacrifice a bit of fuel economy compared to a front-wheel drive variant. The 2022 Prius XLE AWD-e gets EPA fuel economy ratings of 51 mpg city and 47 mpg highway for a combined total of 49 mpg. That’s a bit of a drop from the standard FWD Prius’s numbers of 54 mpg city and 50 mpg highway.
Still, the Prius beats out the next all-wheel drive car by a landslide. According to Truecar, next in line is the 2022 Subaru Impreza, which only manages up to 36 mpg highway. Additionally, for a similar price point of around $35,000, one could get a 2022 Audi A3. While the Audi is all-wheel drive, it also only manages a maximum of around 36 mpg.
The all-wheel drive Prius also comes packed with awesome features
You can take this all-wheel drive Prius just about anywhere you might want to go. Additionally, you can take solace in the fact that it comes loaded with standard safety features. So, if you’re considering taking it up the mountain to a ski resort, no need to worry!
In addition to the standard stuff you’d expect to find in a vehicle, the Prius adds a few safety features that are a cut above the rest. Brake assist, lane departure warning, a blind spot warning system, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors are all standard. It also has pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, and a backup camera.
In addition, the Prius has support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard.
Overall, if you’re looking for a fuel-efficient car that can withstand slippery road conditions in an environment where that’s common, there’s really only one answer. While an all-wheel drive car is helpful, having proper tires for the conditions is also imperative! However, combining AWD with the Prius’s legendary fuel economy is a sure-fire win!
