Things are looking different this year. For example, large automotive players like the Ford F-150 can’t brag about tons of sales growth. In fact, only one Ford truck is flexing positive growth so far in 2024.

Which Ford truck has the most sales growth?

The Ford truck with the most sales growth is the 2024 Ford Maverick. This is a little surprising because for years Americans have been obsessed with getting bigger trucks.

This tiny truck is doing something to gain buyers away from the Ranger, F-150, and rivals from other brands.

According to TFL Truck, the Maverick sold 6,853 models in April of 2023 and then sold 12,077 trucks in April 2024. That’s a sales increase of 83.5%.

The Maverick is on track to sell 150,000 models, meaning it could outsell the Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, and Nissan Frontier.

The Ford Ranger moved 4,201 models in April 2023 and only sold 4,327 units in April 2024. This is a sales increase of 3.0%.

While technically the Ranger did have positive growth, it should be exploding since the redesigned model just launched.

The Ford F-150 sold 69,595 models in April 2023 and only sold 64,568 models in April 2024. This represents a sales decrease of 7.2%.

But the F-150 just launched its mid-cycle refresh, so people should be fawning over its new style and tech.

Also, the Ford F-150 Lightning moved 1,335 units in April 2023 and sold 2,090 models in April 2024. This is a 56.6% sales increase.

Technically, it has positive growth, but I’m not including it with the Maverick because 2,090 is a dismal amount. Plus, it’s selling at a slower rate than expected, causing Ford to cut shifts at the factory.

What’s to blame for the sluggish F-150 and Ranger sales? Are they still recovering from the United Autoworkers strike (UAW) that shut American factories down for six weeks? The Maverick is a Ford truck that’s built in Mexico, so it wasn’t impacted by the strike.

The Ranger and F-150 could be impacted by inflation and supply chain issues as well. Or perhaps these trucks are getting too expensive.

The F-150 starts at $38.765 with the destination fee included and the Ranger starts at $32,265. But the Maverick starts at $25,410.
