Just because you’re shopping for a car that gets good gas mileage doesn’t mean you have to settle for a run-of-the-mill sedan. Sure, there are a multitude of family sedans with great fuel economy numbers. However, if you’d prefer to stay more on the luxury side of things, there’s great news. One luxury sedan lets you have your plush, comfy cake and eat it with a side of 40 miles per gallon, too.

2022 Lexus ES 300h is the only luxury sedan with this kind of gas mileage

Recently, Carfax put together a list of the most fuel-efficient luxury vehicles for the 2022 model year. While there are some fantastic contenders like the BMW 2 Series and Audi A3, none quite match the fuel economy of the Lexus ES hybrid sedan. In fact, it tops the list as the most fuel-efficient luxury vehicle overall, not just sedans.

According to U.S. News, the 2022 Lexus ES 300h gets EPA estimates for fuel economy up to 44 miles per gallon highway and 43 miles per gallon city. Those are some pretty remarkable numbers for any sedan, not just within the luxury category. It doesn’t quite eclipse the 50+ mpg numbers of some sedan offerings. However, it does offer a much more refined and passenger-comfort-oriented driving experience in exchange for those six missing miles per gallon. For many, that’s more than worth it!

The ES 300h gets its remarkable fuel efficiency from its powertrain. It uses a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with a hybrid drivetrain assisting it. Lexus mated this engine and drivetrain combo to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with overdrive to maximize fuel efficiency. All said and done, the ES 300h makes 163 horsepower and puts it down via the front wheels.

Of course, all of this hybrid efficient goodness is accompanied by upscale luxury features you’d expect from Lexus. A fantastic leather upholstery-laden interior, high-quality pioneer speakers, and a fantastic touchscreen display all come as standard.

For the fact that it’s a luxury sedan, the Lexus ES 300h hybrid is actually quite reasonably priced. The starting MSRP for a base 2022 Lexus ES 300h is currently $43,225, according to the Lexus website. Jumping to the top-of-the-line Ultra Luxury trim level bumps the price up to $52,405. When compared to something like the 2022 Volvo S60 T8 Recharge plug-in hybrid and its $47,650 starting price, it seems quite reasonable.

Of course, when buying the Lexus, you also get the peace of mind that comes alongside buying a Toyota-owned product. Much like the standard Toyota range, Lexus vehicles are widely renowned for their reliability and trustworthiness. Ultimately, if you’re in the market for a luxury sedan, you should be considering Lexus in the first place. Having the added benefit of 44 miles per gallon is really just the cherry on top.

Ultimately, if you’re after good fuel efficiency blended into a full-blown luxury sedan, you’ve only got one choice. Fortunately, it’s a great one!
