Only 1 Thing Holds the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Back
We’ve been enjoying time with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and we understand why it’s racking up awards. It’s an excellent electric SUV that genuinely rivals the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E. However, it’s not perfect. One 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 feature could be improved.
Does the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 have enough cargo space?
The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is pretty spacious. You can access 27.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and up to 59.3 cubes total. This is less space than the Telsa Model Y, and Mustang Mach-E provide.
Plus, it’s lacking a few practical features. For example, the frunk or front truck is limited. It only provides 0.85 cubic feet of space. It isn’t large enough to carry groceries or larger tools. Perhaps you can place the charging cable and dirty gym clothes in there.
Also, the cargo cover behind the rear seats gets in the way. You can fold the rear seats flat to make a level cargo floor, but you have to remove the cargo cover to adjust the back row. The cover adds an extra step to the process, and then you need to find a place to store it.
If needed, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 can tow up to 2,300 lbs, which is better than nothing. But the Tesla Model Y can tow up to 3,500 lbs!
Does the Ioniq 5 have enough passenger room?
Yes, the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 provides plenty of passenger room. The seats in the front row are massive, with a variety of adjustment controls. There’s plenty of leg and head space. Plus, the driver’s seat has a footrest that can be extended for naps.
The rear seat is spacious as well. According to Kelley Blue Book, you’ll find up to 39.4 inches of legroom in the back, which is more space than the Toyota RAV4 has to offer. The seats have a nice backrest angle but can recline too. Also, the seats can slide back if you need more space.
Two average-sized adults can fit in the rear without any fuss, but adding a third passenger could make things tight. But the flat load floor helps because there’s no bump blocking space in the middle seat.
Also, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 makes clever use of its available space with plenty of cup holders and storage trays for personal items. The center console is open, allowing you to store bulky items quickly.
The child seat anchors are easy to access, and the sliding seats provide space as needed. Installing a child seat and loading bulky items is easy thanks to large door openings, a wide rear hatch, and low liftover height.
Is the 2022 Ioniq 5 comfortable?
Yes, the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is extremely comfortable. The seats in the first and second rows are well-padded and supportive for long rides. Plus, the heated and ventilated seats are very effective.
The Ioniq 5 has an incredibly smooth ride without feeling floaty. Impacts are absorbed well, even when the suspension stiffens up in Sport Mode. There’s hardly any body roll around curves, allowing people to sit comfortably in place. This prevents motion sickness too.
Also, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is peacefully quiet. The wind and road noise are kept out of the cabin. All you hear is the occasional whirr from electric motors. You can drown everything out with the relaxing sounds of nature over the immersive Bose 12-speaker audio system.
It seems like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 emphasizes passenger comfort instead of practical cargo space usage, which is fine. It’s an engaging and relaxing ride for the whole family. However, rivals provide more cargo space and can tow a little more.
